They were about 3' across. They can decompose faster if given a little moisture and turned on a regular basis. It also helps to have a source of nitrogen to increase the rate of activity.

I had originally planted the banana plants in 2006, then transplanted the pups to that patch in 2008, so it had been growing for about 4 years when I got the flower. Sadly we had a cold snap right after and the flower stopped developing. Can you protect a flower over the cold weather months?
