The spine will fall out when you touch them.
I wash them and give a little scrape with a knife and they fall right off.

Is it really ripe? I read that the spikes fall off when the fruit is fully ripe.

Thank you very much. It's between 3 and 4 years old. I am anxious for the other bud to bloom. I hope the first one will still look good and I will be able to take pictures of both together with their plumage.
