They need to start using lady woodchucks or at least give a gal a chance. Phil and his buds mess with us at will and have been for ages. A female groundhog would take the job more seriously and, I suspect, deliver better results since XXers are known to be nurturing pleasers/placcators and understand that 90% of the "regular" people in the US don't own ski lodges or snow ski often so getting winter over with would be a good thing. Besides, since the advent of global warning, how could she not get it right? (Hey, someone finally stopped blaming hurricanes on women by naming every other storm after men; time for equality in woodchucking.)

Fowl and food from the sea are also good says this used to be northern gal; I do not do rodents knowingly. But I may have. I'm a good guest; if you serve "chicken" at dinner, I'll partake. I don't think anyone has ever "slipped" me anything to me but I honestly don't know. I did have alligator a few months ago when my host ordered appetizers at a restaurant. Tasted like Howard Johnson's fried clams.

I wasn't in the kitchen so don't know if they soaked the strips. Honestly, they tasted like fried clams and were very yummy. Living most of my life 150 miles from the eastern shore in MD, I ate a lot of raw oysters, crabs steamed with Old Bay and Rockfish but fried clams you bought frozen and baked; they were a treat and alligator reminded me of them.

Yes, I've avoided the woodchuck theme...as a young girl of 9 or 10 I spent a summer at my grandparents' farm in upstate NY where for some reason my grandmother thought I should be the groundhog killer. Armed with a cane, I spent many early mornings wandering the fields with her dog, Sandy. He would surprise the prey, I would club it and he would kill it. Sometimes I had to club it several times because the groundhog was attacking Sandy. When we had our kill, we went home. Sandy would roll in/play with his bounty in the backyard for the day until Grandma told Grandpa it was time to remove the body. The manure spreader held many wonderful treats for the fields including our prizes. Never once did she serve us one for dinner...Yankees just don't eat them I don't think...they like that salt cod...

I'm with you I do sea food as well but I don't want rodent, raccoon or opossum on my plate. They belong in the woods not in my pot.
