Just like how nobody could have imagined terrorists crashing planes into buildings.

I think the odds are about 0% that the smartest people at Monsanto thought there was anywhere near a 0% chance that weeds would develop resistance to glyphosate (though I readily grant that some random individual employees of Monsanto and a small number of university scientists may have been sufficiently dimwitted to hold such a view).

IMO, the "gee who'd a thunk it?" defense lacks any cogency. Unfortunately, it mollifies most of the bell curve, which is why governments and corporations usually use it. The article's ending note (i.e. floating the opinion that this situation couldn't have been avoided) also reeks of spin and mollification.

*Sigh. I'm not surprised. It is pretty comical to me though to read the part about where they say: well gee it took us so long to do it, and was so hard to accomplish, there's no way mother nature could do it better. HA..HA..ahhahahahah
