Yeah, I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis (my older brother told me to watch for a big fire in the sky if the world was going to end), the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, etc.

My older brother played a song backwards which supposedly had lyrics "turn me on dead man". Can anybody name that (without searching)?

Better to be old than the alternative! :P

Friday night: Nanny and the professor , Partridge Family, Brady bunch! At this point the younger of us here must think we're nuts!
Didn't remember Cuban missile crisis but had a NIKE Missile base through the woods in the back yard. My mother would take me to the kitchen window and hoist me up to see them routinely raising the missiles when the leaves were off the trees. Wasn't till the 90's we found out they were nukes.

Got it.
There was supposedly something under the white album cover but my brother didn't find anything. He just ruined it by steaming it. lol

I'm the same age as Caroline Kennedy and I can still picture her in my mind at JFK's funeral.

If I remember correctly, we had casualty numbers from the war in Viet Nam reported on the news every night. I wonder why we don't have that today.

In my opinion that's counterproductive during the war Harvey. Why do we want to know?
In the end, we'd want to quit the war.
And demonstrate. But then you'd say this is free speech country.
My opinion again. That's why we lost in 2 wars now. In Vietnam and Iraq.

It wasn't the US Army's complete ineptitude in the face of well-coordinated guerrilla tactics? And what's so bad about wanting to stop a war?

I won't say anything else on that - you'd just point out that I live in a Socialist republic. It's a dang sight better than Canada was, though, let me tell you that.

On a note for us younger bucks, does anybody remember Mr. Dressup and The Friendly Giant and Fraggle Rock? Or Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans?

Benny, more than protesting, I'm afraid that many of society today forget all about the fighting our soldiers are doing for us every day.

Ante, with all due respect, this part of the forum is for talking about whatever we want to talk about. This part of the forum is NOT for talking about bananas. I can understand your sensitivity to the subject, however, but it's best for you to avoid this part of the forum if you want to make sure you avoid running into discussions about it.

Peace,

Harvey

Yes, I remember Captain Kangaroo. Did you know he was a well decorated war hero?!

I remember the Catholic nuns were tough. If you did something wrong (which I didn't - too afraid of them), they, the principal & your parents would punish you. Now if a teacher punishes a student, parents file a lawsuit.

Remeber Lost in Space? .. You bubble headed booby!

Lorax, Capt. Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans with the Dancing Bear was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, Fragile Rock was my oldest sons fav. use to tape every show and he would watch then until the vhs tape wore out. I credit Fragile Rock with his interest in science, he's 24 now and doing Graduate work at Ohio State University, wants his PHD in Theoretical Physics.

This is odd but I seem to remember television ads for miracle grow back in the early 70's I guess it was. How about this, we got a color Zenith tv with the old fashioned clicker remote. It had only 5 buttons. Funny thing is that the tone from the dogs tags would sometimes change the channel or turn it on or off!

Don't even get me started on tv shows! TV was my real parent most of the time!

Mitchel, Cal Worthington is from northern California and had many dealerships across the state. I was surprised when I saw his ads in SoCal, SLO, etc. at first. For a while in the 80s he lived behind one of my co-workers. He has a large ranch in Glenn County, I believe (maybe Colusa County). It's something like 10,000 acres. He maybe has another ranch in Wyoming.

Back to the 60s, we had a Dodge station wagon with a push button automatic transmission like that video showed for Chrysler. I wish I had that car today as it was pretty cool.

He must of had dealerships all over California cause he had two here. One was in Bellflower I think. I remember asking my parents to go see him!
