![]() I'm heading over to Georgia in a short while, and was wondering what I could spend my weekend visiting? I know about the Atlanta Conservatory, but are there any great nurseries, gardens etc that you could recommend? I'm happy to travel as long as I can drive there, and get back in the weekend!

![]() While I can't suggest nurseries, gardens, etc..., I spent an afternoon in Savannah while driving through the state, the historic district is really beautiful! Watch "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and you'll want to go!

![]() Yeah, if you go to Savannah, make sure to visit the Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens. Lots of bananas there! In fact, there's sort of a mini-plantation area there. GATrops, a member here, could probably tell you more. Large hardy palm collection there also, sponsored by the Southeastern Palm Society.
Valdosta is a nice area, lots of hardy palms around the area, plus a theme park whose name escapes me right now. Athens is home to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, just a short drive from Atlanta. |

![]() Georgia has it all. Beautiful mountains and great beaches. Theres even a town named Helen in the Mtns. Helen, Georgia.
I think the best known garden is called Callaway Gardens. I went here as a kid but don't remember any of it. Have a great trip! http://www.callawaygardens.com/ |

![]() The City of Asheville is about 4 hours away from the atlanta area. If you are up a real road trip check out the garden at the biltmore estate in southwestern north carolina.

![]() I always spend 1/2 day at REI if time permits.
Asheville has a great brew pub you have to try, I think it's called Green Guy or something. And I ran into the love of my life there--Andie Macdowell
