What's J-Bert been up to?
Many many hobbies, always new things coming along. I like to build as much as learn new things.
My friend Cincinnana gave me a new passion for hypertufa creative possibilities. Khekc out my Eggs. Picked up the dragon guard locally. This year I decided to plant LOTUS in my pond (24 dif. types) Year before, one did great but died over winter... Seed germination was great... Almost sad to through away the rest, I'll try to give some away. I plan to only keep 2 seeds of each (in each pot) in my pond and, 1 of each in my GH for a back-up. I also have cattails, parrots feather, lily pads and a couple more cool weeds in my pond. Bream, crappy, catfish too. I can only hope for now I received different lotus but I am keeping them ALL labeled and waiting to see different color flowers, so I can confirm I.D.s 1-24 Named below (none misspelled from info I got?) Blue goddess, red heart, red peach, blue fairy, red latern, citrine orange, sapphire, jade red, pink anemone, pink beauty, five stars, philippines gold, pure white, double colors, light yellow, purple jade finger, yellow lady, cute pink, crown purple, purple daisy, snow balls, red, pink, white goddess all got 5 gallon pots...Diagram above is only approximate location for my own reference. I will try to overwinter them in my GH. Made this welcome sign to hang in my front yard. Only used crude templates, a jigsaw, sharpie, file, drill+bit, and my creative brain. A working router would have been nice... I'll post some pictures of my garden when some of my veggies are bigger/ start producing more... Last edited by jbyrd88888 : 05-24-2014 at 03:00 PM. |

Re: What's J-Bert been up to?
I'll admit I'm still a newbie to bananas so this is the first big speration/pup removal.
A couple puppies were butchered in the making of this post. Basjoo Because it has been raining I figured it would be a good time to try this out. I first sprayed the root area to determine where the pups were connected and all were connected to the mother plant. Most of the big ones had good roots but the small ones are the real testers... The results. I did Not use any Mycorrhizae, root hormone or any other innoculants but peat moss and extra perlite was added. Now it's a waiting game to see how things turn out. I plan to keep them potted all winter. |

Re: What's J-Bert been up to?
Just figured I'd share pics of the city of HP temporarily (Constantly changing!)
Took a few pics at the job. I grew up around this stuff but the architecture, art, and details have always inspired me. International Home Furnishing Center Backside of the IHFC Soooo much home decorations... No bananas Notice my VIP access wrist-band Across the street this building is known as the showplace. Re: What's J-Bert been up to?
These trees will be cut down sooooON, I hope... But this is progress I guess...
I'll state again: My GH had to get moved because it was near a natural gas line easement therefore, the gas company is paying to move my GH, 5 trees, and fence to suit their needs. I am very worried because this time of the year I'm usually picking up falling limbs and tons of leafs but I did trim both trees heavily end of last year. This year I will modify my heat mat a bit and center it in my GH. |

Re: What's J-Bert been up to?
YESTERDAY 10/24/14 I spent half of the day shoveling the most mulch I have EVER had!
MULCH For all my plants and new mulch beds! I couldn't pass-up free wood/leaf chips. The wood chips accumulated from my two maple trees and my neighbor-across-the-street cedars, gumball, firs, and a few unknowns. I guess I'll find out if this was a good idea; next year. I hope to post a "finished" pic by later today... I'm not sore yet but I'm the only one moving all that mulch all over my yard. |

Re: What's J-Bert been up to?
The plastic water pipe running to my house had already been repaired twice and started leaking again! GRRRR! Asked my certified Mr. Rooter buddy to help jack-hammer my walkway and saved several hundred dollars cha-ching. Replaced the whole line, 5 year warranty too but PEX pipe lasts forever.... Trench 18-24" deep <6hours, I will be sore tomorrow. Now I just need to ask my concrete/cement neighbor.........tired, Good night.

Re: What's J-Bert been up to?
It has not been quite a whole month yettt BUT today they finally decided to put my fence back up... Sure I can understand concrete needs to set for at least a couple days but danG...
I noticed the crew at my house today (I never know when to expect) and as I approached them a hour later (they were rushing) I almost started YELLING... The posts where NOTTT level and my privacy fence was staggered. I quickly called the project contractor and immediately the fence was taken back out and re-reset LEVEL! So glad I was at home. VVV This was not level at all (but is in picture). VVV My greenhouse is perking up. Everything is still pushing and mold/fungi/pest are Not a problem. I guess I should go snap a pic of the fence finished. |

Re: What's J-Bert been up to?
Fence done! I still gotta paint it but I'm happy... This new yard between yards will probably be my new vegetable garden next year!... It will be so huge I will have much more to share with my neighbors.
Don't ask what's on top my chimney. It is being properly capped and cleaned. |
