Hiya Re: What'cha havin' for dinner ???

I'm having my homemade chili tonight...it's slowly heating on the stove right now.

Gonna melt some marble cheese on it and make some crustinies to dunk in it. I'll try to get a shot to post for later...

What are you guys having tonight?

Drew, it's a fancy name for a piece of good bread, toasted, then rubbed with a piece of fresh
garlic.

In other words...garlic bread!

Joy Re: What'cha havin' for dinner ???

Well, I didn't even end up making the crustinies after all!

I had the french bread all sliced and ready to toast and then there was a knock at the door. It was my girlfriend (which just means friend that's a girl! ) with buffalo style chicken wings!

She knows I'm heart-conscious and I don't like to eat tons of stuff like that but once in awhile is ok...and they went great with the chili which I shared with her.

The chili was totally delicious with these...

Those were hers actually, but these were mine...

Of course we were too stuffed to eat everything and now I have a bunch of chili and chicken wings in my fridge!

Anyone close by, who's hungry?

Oh that looks so good! I love chili and hot wings. I wasn't very hungry tonight so I just had some port wine cheese with almonds (one of those balls you buy) with some crackers and a slice of whole wheat bread and peanut butter. But now after seeing that, I am gleeking and my stomach is growling. Drats! ~J

I eat and enjoy whole wheat bread too, Janan.

Yeah our dinner sure was good. It would have been way too much with the crustinies too though, so I'll make them another time.

Might gobble on a wing or two later if I get hungry. Wish you were here Janan so I could share with
you.

I just hope I don't wake up to a bed full of chili and chicken wings ...if you catch my drift!

Made a BBQ chicken tonight with corn and a romaine/radichio salad. Quite good if I say so myself.

That chili looks great.... I could use some now! : )

I made the venison and chestnut recipe last night again that I posted the recipe before. Here's the chestnuts simmering in venison stock with demi glace and some rosemary:

and the finished dish... it didn't last long.

Now that Ive got the hang of preparing and peeling them properly I think I'll be getting chestnuts for a winter treat for a long time to come. Any discounts for volume Harvey?

Oh please...gimme a break. Bob was just telling me on the phone today...that was a catered meal and not even his own.

Too delicious Bob. Did they charge extra for the rush on the delivery? Hey I like that plate with the potted herbs on it. Nice.

Thanks about my chili...had it again tonight leftover.

I love making a huge pot of chili, and then having it again and again. Some are mild, some hot, some sweet, some with beef chunks and ground beef, some with only one or the other. Different peppers make great variations, too. Yours must be fantastic considering all the hot peppers you grow, THL!

Mmmmm...it all looks really good Bob. I see you were hunting again yesterday and having another feast with the boys.

Thanks for posting. Nice to see you eating something so simple for a change as a hotdog, instead of all those gourmet catered meals we've been seeing from you lately.

Chicken fricassee (leftovers from the other night). I serve it over either rice or noodles. (Usually rice- I LOVE rice!) This is slightly different than usual; I used chicken giblets and some home made small meatballs. Since we're kosher, I can't use a cream sauce, but the au jus is fine.

I love rice too...but prefer it light, dry, and fluffy. I eat it every chance I get. I like flavoring it different ways and adding things to it.

My personal favorite is cooking the rice with fresh garlic and butter, then adding diced green onion at the very end when it's off the stove. Yummy!

Drummer Re: What'cha havin' for dinner ???

Hey Sherry,

Try your rice dish under some white (navy) beans. Delicioso!!!!

1. 4-bay leaves, 1/2-large onion, 1-clove garlic, 1-1/2 tsp. med. cracked pepper 1/2 tsp. kosher salt, 1-1/2 tbs. EVOO., 2/3 small bag beans.

2.Take the garlic and chop fine; add to kosher salt, and mince the garlic into the salt using a vegetable knife (wide blade). Do this by a back and forth motion with the thinnest part of the knife, like you were sharpening a straight razor with leather straps. Add to all other ingredients with enough water to cover by a 1/2 '' and simmer lightly for about 4 hours keeping the water just covering the beans. Remember to add only hot water from dispenser or teapot!
