What are your 2010 goals?

I thought this might be a interesting thread. Feel free to add your own, whether it's banana related or not. Might be fun to check this thread at the end of 2010 to see how you did.

Some of my goals would include:
1. Successful completion of overwintering of my bananas. (fingers crossed)
2. Buying an Ae Ae.
3. Researching, buying and planting of a Bamboo clump.
4. Continue with germination of bananas and palms.
5. Adding new banana area to backyard.
6. Adding a small pond to backyard.
7. Moving from Iowa. (This one would strike many of the previous goals)

What are some of your ideas for 2010? Even if you only have one, let's hear it!

Re: What are your 2010 goals?

To get one banana to flower would be the first goal. Edible fruit the second. I think I may have a chance with, Ca. Gold, Raja Puri, Dwarf Nam Wah, Velutina....oops Dasycarpa! and maybe Ice cream. All of these are mature enough and are being overwintered actively growing( though January is fairly dormant). The limiting factors of course are ..... transplant shock and it's effects and of course the short outdoor growing season here. One can only hope.

Re: What are your 2010 goals?

1) Hm, to see at least one naner blooming in 2010.
1+) To spend more time with (more) women. ;)

The rest will be automatic.

Sure. Also:

2) Find some time to go and check up on Ante and meet him in person, see bananas, balanas and olive garden (no maa, we ain't going to the Olive Garden - Big Bang). :bananas_b
But I'd better find some girlfriend before that, so that Ante could show us some parts of the beach, where we will be hidden from everyone and won't be arrested by Croatian police for having *** on the beach. :D (that is actually an extension of 1+, so it means 1++?)

Re: What are your 2010 goals?

Finish the addition & siding the house
Insulate the greenhouse to use to Winter bananas next year

Start setting up Christmas display EARLY (end of Sept) in 2010 to have a HUGE display
To achieve above:
Setup animated Christmas tree - 4 colors - in summer & test
Build Radio broadcasting unit to broadcast Christmas music
Test bulbs for blow molds (300+) & have ready to go out starting in November
Put away $$$ for electric bill

Re: What are your 2010 goals?

Cool thread idea...

Here are my goals (plant related only goals)...
- Overwinter my pindo palm, windmill palms, needle palm, and sabal minor sucessfully outdoors.
- Keep all the plants I have indoors alive (and somewhat pest free)
- Get all my plumerias to flower (I now have 6 and only had 3 last summer, 2 of which flowered)
- Sink some tropical potted plants in the ground so it gives a more tropical effect
- look for some more bananas (maybe get some fruit from my dwarf cavendish too, wishful thinking though)
- to get my orange to fruit (it keeps on flowering, but no fruit!)
- Hang spanish moss on my tree without bugs taking it over or it being rippped apart from birds (I already got the spanish moss so one problem solved)
- This ones the most important: to step into my backyard and feel like im in the tropics.

Re: What are your 2010 goals?

I am going to try to get my Basjoo and Dwarf Orinoco in the ground. I have a lot of prep work to due in the spring as the soil here in PA is very heavy clay. I would also like to unload all of my extra banana plants. I am also planning on a small garden with a few varieties of squash, heirloom tomatoes, hot peppers and some beans. If I could produce about 100 pounds of food from the yard I would be happy.

May you never lie, cheat, or drink.
But if you must lie, lie in each other's arms.
If you must cheat, cheat death.
And if you must drink, drink with all of us because we love you.

That's a great toast Howard. I have to remember that one because the one I have used in the past I tend to butcher.

It's supposed to go, "May the best day of your past be the worst day of your future." The last time I offered this beauty was my Mother in law's house, on her birthday. We had just sat down for a great birthday dinner and I asked if I could say something, I stand up and say, "May your worst days of your past be the best days of your future." Then I proceed to back track and butcher it even more by saying, "May the days in your future be the best days of your past." It was a train wreck, my wife was looking me in the eyes shaking her head, my brother in law was looking down as if not to laugh and my Father in law was confused. Luckily my Mother in law understood and said, "I get it.":ha:
