What New Seeds Did You Get ???
I just got three new types of Bird of Paradise seeds yesterday in the mail...
Looking forward to sowing them. They're actually for my aunt, but I'm gonna keep a couple seeds for me too. Let us know what new seeds you received lately too... : ) |

Re: What New Seeds Did You Get ???
Just a quick note; I noticed you bought the 3 "Birds of Paradise" seed. I hope you arent expecting that the first packet of seed is anything like the other 2. Its also called Dwarf Poinciana and Pride of Barbados. Its nothing like the other 2 Birds and not even in the same family. It grows into a medium size bush with leaves like a legume, which is the family it belongs to. The flowers come in different colors; lavender, yellow, white, orange, and red. Orange is the most common, so thats probably what you've got. The seed will also germinate much faster than the True Birds of Paradise. It doesnt have the Latin name on the White Bird packet, so if you're interested, its Strelitzia Nicolai. You can google images of them to see the differences.

Re: What New Seeds Did You Get ???
Thank you for that great information.
I'll be getting some more seeds shortly, but I also recently picked up some more Caerulea passiflora. Someone also sent me seeds for a Roma cherry tomato variety. : ) |

Re: What New Seeds Did You Get ???
Jumping Jupiter, how exciting!!!
I finally got the seeds I've been waiting for. I've been wanting sweet and hot pepper types that are white, or nearly white. Here's a shot of my new seeds... I got "White Habanero", known as 'Peruvian White Habanero'...a lovely and rare variety that is hard to come by and said to originate in Peru. They have been rated at over 300,000 scoville heat units. Although not my own shot, here's how they'll look... "Feher Edes" Sweet Paprika (sweet long pale yellow, nearly white). The seeds came from Hungary! Here's how the fruits will look... "Antohi Romanian", a large beautiful pepper that ripens from pale yellow to bright red... A very special type that's not white, called "Filius Blue"...an ornamental hot pepper with purple/blue fruits... Oh I can't wait to grow them. For now I'll sow the White Habanero and Filius Blue... : ) |

Re: What New Seeds Did You Get ???
In case your White Bird seeds are not fresh (I dont even know if that matters or not), or if they are taking way too long to germinate for you; I have some newly sprouted seedlings. I have mature specimens all over the property. Since its spring and we've been getting some rain, Ive noticed about a dozen or so seedlings popping up in the mulch. So far they have only their first leaf. This is the first time ever in all the years Ive been here that Ive noticed seedlings! I first thought they were little heliconia shoots as I have those planted near the White birds, but no, they are Strelitzia seedlings! So if you, or anyone else wants them, let me know and you can have them for postage. I really have no interest in keeping them as I have so many huge ones already, and I dont want any more growing up where they have sprouted.

Re: What New Seeds Did You Get ???
Thanks for the offer, but I really only got those seeds for my aunt...they're not really my thing.
No doubt someone else will take you up on your offer though. Soon I'm getting Miracle Fruit seeds and some other cool fruiting varieties, as well as more Goji Berry (Lycium Barbarum) seeds too. : ) |
