![]() I have just heard that a sea turtle of unknown type came ashore at midnight last night on the main tourist beach at Cabarete and laid its eggs. This hasn't happened for a long time and glad to say they have 2 armed guards protecting it atm. Don't know what they will do but it will probably be best if they dig the eggs up and take them to a hatchery or a beach in a nature reserve. Makes your heart sing!

![]() ![]() ![]() That is such great news! If you ever find out what type of turtle it was, please share. Hope the eggs are fertile, and if you get a chance, thank the guards.

![]() ive never seen the nesting of turtles, only on the national geographic channel. i would be the one out on the beach trying to keep the gull from eating them. i love anything affiliated with the ocean. i could see a bunch of us on the beach screamin, "hurry, hurry, run forrest run!"...sorry. LOL!

![]() it was a leatherback turtle about 5ft long - we are all waiting to see what happens to the eggs - I think they have to be moved elsewhere.

![]() That's awesome. In Grand Cayman, they have a huge turtle farm for breeding sea turtles. It was amazing visiting it and seeing turtles of all sizes. I hope those turtle eggs all hatch.
