Very cool!

I see a couple swallowtail butterflies every once and a while. But not many caterpillars.

Plenty of monarchs though

Maybe next year I will grow some host plants of some butterflies.

Good Idea on the host plants. They seem to like Sapote

Thanks

I can easily get milkweed and a couple other things. Monarchs like them. Maybe I will be able to find some more host plants by next year..

I like how they mimic little sticks when they cocoon up. When they are bigger it you shake the leaf a little bit they will shoot out two antennas from their head and left off the stinky smell.

Yep that's right!

Here is an old shot of mine. It is an Eastern Black Swallowtail that was out in the pasture.

I loved the touch of blue on it. What does your caterpillar look like when grown?

If you need any more let me know. We have way too many here and they do produce a lot of eaters. Neem oil is my best choice but with the daily rains we have to wait for drier weather. Lucky for the butterflies.

Would you like a hundred more? There are three species here that can ruin your plants fast. Not that we don't like butterflies, even some moths, but have to be very careful and observent to keep up with the offspriing.
