Not my yard but only a few feet away. I hope they are not african bees.

They are not Africanized, because if they were you would have been stung many to hundreds of times at that range.

Ya I was saying that because my neighbor (the beekeeper) who is out of town had to remove all of his bees because some african ones started to move in. We think now that another bee persons queen escaped and must of gone to this tree.

If bees feel their current home is too crowded, they will build several special queen cells called swarm cells, supercede cells or sometimes just queen cells. After the queen lays an egg in each, the young are fed a special diet (I think it's called 'royal jelly' or something similar) so they grow up to be queen bees. Once they are mature and hatch out, the several queens fight/sting each other till there is just one new queen surviving (actually it's pretty dumb for any of them to fight/sting one another since even if they 'win' the battle by stinging the other queen they still die LOL). Anywho, then the worker bees divide up and the new queen takes half the hive members off to find a new place to start a hive. This is the 'swarm' seen in the pic. The original queen continues to lay eggs at the original site.

Sorry for the honey bee lesson...I used to have a couple hives at my house when I was growing up that I took care of. It's kind of a hassle to prevent swarming. You have to check through the brood chamber once a week to remove any of the special queen cells you find so they don't swarm and run off with half your worker bees.
Here's a picture of what the swarm cells look like:

Well this evening the ladies (young & old) went nuts cause there was a rattler under my grill on the back deck. I wish I could've gotten a picture (but I move like pond water these days). :^)

This is the fifth one in the house so far this Spring. And yes, one of these was in my bedroom. Sigh! Too bad the snake didn't catch it instead of me!

On a much better note, the barn swallows are keeping the mosquitoes down!

Hey Jan the only place in the South where I ever had a Scorpion in my house was oklahoma ((1) not even Texas or Southern LA). :^)

This little guy was In bad need of a break,he was almost forty miles offshore. I think its a wild canary we see these almost everyday and they love to rest on the boat. You can almost see the large cargo ship in the background.

Bryan (LilRaverboi) dont think thats a swarm cell believe its a super sequel cell, they are replacing the queen! Swarm cells are on bottom of frames, not the middle.
