Just remember next year will be much easier.. Small plants are not as cold hearty as bigger one's so if you make it thru this one your way good.. :^)

do not buy the expensive stuff at the big box. Do some sort of heat sink ,water ,blocks ,sand, whatever ..you can put it at a safe distance above and around the heater......you might have to go vertical. I have seen your pics, you have it going on. Last edited by cincinnana : 11-25-2013 at 09:48 PM. |

Re: Southern Weather Forecast
Well there is a 3 degree buffer in the predictions, we'll see what it ends up @ the end of the week.. It was only a low of 28F in S. Ark this fine morning.. and the good news is it was short duration.. :^)

Re: Southern Weather Forecast
29f for about 4 hours here this morning(2-3am until a bit after 6am). Frost on the ground and a few plants. Oddly a stray tomato plant doesn't seem affected at all.

Re: Southern Weather Forecast
I jumped the gun the Wednesday afternoon and covered my banana for an expected low of 35; I tucked a few other pots under. Huge mistake! My DC is taller than I am so I broke a leaf tarping her. That was fine except the neighborhood cat decided to investigate. She took a flying leap off a vehicle to the right onto my carefully tented plant. I knew that wasn't good. I fluffed it back up but knew all was not well.
Unveiled the next morning where I discovered she'd snapped 2 leaves on the left. (Will trim tomorrow and wrap something yummy for the oven (maybe her? ) so all is not lost...) Next 10 days are smooth sailing here...supposedly...

Re: Southern Weather Forecast
We have tonight/ morning to deal with up here and possible frost weather next weekend in S. Ark w/ low's of 34F.. Tonight N. La is a low of 30F and the next 9 days of the forecast is clear sailing as well.. Those semi-busted leaves still work till they turn brow so leave them in place.. :^)

Re: Southern Weather Forecast
Temps are only supposed to get down to 50f, and daytime temps will inch back up to low 70s in the next week, so tomorrow morning all the wrappings come back off.
