Shipping by ground is lots cheaper. The corms will be fine. I have has some in transit from florida to canada for almost 2 weeks and they do fine. By the way... I always make sure that if postage costs the person I bought from more than I paid... I always pay the extra. Why would anyone not pay ...the postal cost is right on the tag....seems only fair.

You may want to look into priority flat rate boxes.
If your shipment fits into a large flat rate box (12" x 12" x 5.5") and weighs no more than 70 pounds then it costs $12.95 shipped anywhere in the U.S. The box itself is free.

They have two different smaller flat rate boxes that ship anywhere in the U.S. for $9.80. They are sized at 11" x 8.5" x 5.5" and 13.625" x 11.875" x 3.375".

You can also calculate postage online:

I calculate, buy and print my postage online for my shipments. No surprises that way:

I used to print postage online, but the last 3 times I tried it the labels would not print properly. I was only getting half the bar code area, but the sample page would print just fine. I had to get three refunds from Paypal and the person I talked to said they have been having problems lately. Now I'm hesitant to try it again because when it fails you have to file a claim and it takes 15 days to get your money refunded, and you still have to go and pay for the postage so it's a double whammy! Just the time and aggravation of repeatedly trying to reprint the labels is enough to make me drive to the post office, which I also greatly dislike. Is anyone else here experiencing problems with printing postage?

Yes, there are a lot of hoops to go through to sell mail order/internet!
We pay state and use taxes, and like the other person said, they also want to know how much sales you did even if your state doesn't charge the tax on out of state sales.
We are a licensed nursery and inspected, and spot-checked from time to time unexpectedly too. Usually by the guy that likes tropical plants, though!
The notice that the post office sent me says they are now charging by weight, zone, and size of the package. So in other words, if you live in Florida and you're sending to CA, and it's a big box, that weighs 20 lbs, you better expect to pay through the nose.
I wouldn't have contacted my purchaser though, myself. It just looks tacky to do that if you have a business. But if you are an individual, maybe it would be ok.
Just put that one up to experience, you just learned something!

Yeah, well not a business here so I didn't feel so bad contacting the buyers. Not too happy with the responces I got, but oh well. It was my fault for not double checking to see if the rates had gone up but it would have been nice to have offered at least a little compensation. As it stands right now, they paid under $20 for the plant and shipping, but I gave them over $20 in shipping. So basically they got free plants! Now I wish I hadn't thrown in extra stuff!!! Absolutely lesson learned!!!
