Is treated sewage and sewage sludge the same thing?

Sewage sludge refers to the solids. A license is required to buy or sell untreated human sewage of any kind. Treated sewage can refer to many things.

A portion of the Los Angeles area sewage is processed in a series of factories along side the Harbor Freeway as you approach San Pedro. It is basically a series of successive extractions: light density liquids, liquids of various density or chemical composition, all the way down to solids. Soap solids recovered from sewage is a major industry. Notice that the Bandini company is about 2/3 the way down the chain.
