Default Salvation Mountain Info

Some of you may know about Salvation Mountain here in California. It's located in Slab City just east of the Salton Sea. Leonard Knight has spent close to 30 years building and painting this spectacle in the desert. He is currently at a care facility that deals with dementia. Things are changing for Leonard, Salvation Mountain and the people that support him.

Leonard Knight and his Salvation Mountain

This is Kevin Eubank, he has been living at Salvation mountain writing a book about Leonard. They have become best friends over the years.

About a week ago Kevin Eubank passed away in his van at the mountain.

So the guy, likely unemployed, has plenty of time on his hands, makes a 'dwelling' out of junk and mud... (which may not be structurally safe), continually expands it, and this is a love story for God? Plus, does he own the property outright, or is he a squatter, and figures this is an angle to keep from getting tossed due to the emotional feel-gooder outcry it would bring?

What am I missing here?

Sounds like it was 'salvage' mountain, and he decided to re-name it since the 'god' angle might get more attention. How exactly does this serve God or your fellow man? Could not his time be better used by volunteering at a soup kitchen or a homeless shelter? I just have to wonder, do folks drive by, see the 'Jesus' and 'God' theme and are somehow totally overcome and become miraculously converted, change their lives and vow to always live a Christ-like life, or do they say, "take a look at what this Jesus-freak kook created"? I think many would be quite put-off by it, and shun any religious angle for fear they also might turn into borderline nut-balls. (I'm not saying he is one; just that some people might think that) Something to think about - are you really bringing any souls to God when you are so off-the-wall and 'out-there', or are you actually scaring them away?

I know this will ruffle some feathers, but sometimes you gotta back up and really examine things from a true perspective instead of just getting caught up in the delusional emotion of the moment - too much emotion clouds judgement.

I don't have the answer you seek, but one thing is clear, the man was very happy doing his thing out in the desert and he made a lot of others happy in the process. Seems like a win win to me!

Like I said, he was happy doing what he did. He made enough money to continue his project through donations and selling gifts. Working on the mountain and giving tours was his job, and he really loved it. Not many people can say that.

Hunting too

The Sonny Bono Salton Sea NWR offers several sites for waterfowl hunting during waterfowl season in accordance with the State of California regulations. Hunting is permitted on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays only. Only ducks, geese, coots and moorhens Snow geese with adult "blue goose". (USFWS)(gallinules) may be hunted.

The daily quota of hunters shall be filled by those holding advance reservations, which are issued by the California Department of Fish and Game. Hunters with reservations must present them at the Wister Check Station no later than 1 ½ hours before shooting time. Vacancies occurring from no show reservation holders and from hunters leaving the area shall be filled according to the order established in the previous night’s drawing at the Wister Check Station. Furthermore, a permit must be obtained at the Wister Check Station and must be in the hunter’s possession for hunting on the Refuge. Hunters are permitted to enter only the assigned blind site for which the permit is issued. A fee is required for all persons 16 years and older. All hunters are required to check out at the Wister Check Station, report hunting results, and return their permits before leaving the area.

Ive only been duck hunting once and we dont have a retriever now. mostly i only hunt rabbits till i get a .308. then i can hunt bigger game. Corvina? kewl. if that dude can fish than thats a good call to be there. Is that orangemouth corvina? i think that can be caught with bass gear on 6 or 8 pound test with live anchovies. with a small hook. thanks for that link. =) a dude at another forum said there not epic fighters. Tilapias okay too and they will even take hot dogs, lol. i like Corvina more.

I don't think any Corvina still exist there. There is Tilapia but every year there is a huge die off so who knows how that fishery will do in the future. Without runoff from the farms it's shrinking and getting more salty. I have heard talk about a restoration though.

Just read this as the link wouldn't work yesterday. I have to agree with the author. Stop the inflow and let it die naturally.
