A regular old carbide for a circular saw would work fine providing there is no kindling to start a fire.

One reviewer of one of the blades I linked above mentioned that the material being cut was cool to the touch unlike some other blades he had used. He rightly mentioned that hot sparks damaged painted surface of the roofing material which lead to rust streaks later on.

I installed roofing material painted a sandstone color. I don't care to have to do touch up painting as it would end up something less than pretty good.

From one of reviews of the Malco blade:
Quote:
The saw blade seems to run cool and doesn't appear to throw sparks like an abrasive blade does. Sparks are really bad on products such as painted metal roofing. The sparks burn into the paint causing rust streaking and early failure of the metal finish.

I could cut from the bottom side but sparks can fly from both sides of the blade. That reviewer cut 18 gauge steel roofing material and it was not damaged. He cut 200 feet with one blade. I need to make two 17 foot cuts (ripping one remaining panel to get two pieces one foot wide) and cut 10 more cuts 3.1 feet long each to create 20 gable ends and some various cuts on one more piece to create two center pieces for each gable, maybe about 80 feet of cuts altogether. I've used abrasive blades on chop saws and know sparks fly everywhere. If I spent a few thousand on a plasma cutter I think that would work pretty good, burning only the edges which get covered up.

May be a pretty good day today, sun is just now burning through the fog. Glad it wasn't foggy yesterday as handling cold steel when the sun isn't out isn't fun.

I ended up ordering Amazon.com: Bare-Tool Makita BCS550Z 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 5-3/8-Inch Metal Cutting Saw (Tool Only, No Battery): Home Improvement last night. Pretty good or better reviews of it and I've already got batteries from my drill and impact driver. I was somewhat reluctant to go with a cordless model but then remembered the pain when I bought about 10 sticks (20') of rebar at Lowe's once when I hadn't taken my trailer. They loaned me bolt cutters to try cutting it in the parking lot but that was extremely difficult.

My roofing is not flat but I can place a piece of flat material across it to run the base plate of the saw across.

My first Makita cordless drill purchased about 25 years ago was pretty good and the original NiCad batteries are still working for my friend whom I gave the drill to about 5 years ago. The battery doesn't last very long but enough for small home projects which is pretty good for a NiCad battery of that age. My Makita with NiMH batteries bought about 5 years ago was just "okay", with one battery not living very long and the second slowly become less effective. The clutch on it was also quickly going out so it was ineffective in driving screws (I was using both nails an screws for the framing of my pole barn since screws don't work loose but nails have greater shear strength). I went back and forth on what brand to buy a couple of weeks ago but am pleased with my new Makita drill and impact driver combo set with Lithium Ion batteries. I worked for a day and a half on just one battery and they charge in just 30 minutes so it's unlikely I'll ever run out of battery power except if I use this saw continuously. I was thinking of buying a cordless Makita circular saw anyways as I often need to make just a couple of cuts when I'm not near power. I'll probably buy a general purpose blade for this saw I just ordered for some of those other uses. Dewalt seems to be more widely used by a lot of contractors but I think that's mostly due to marketing through the big box stores. Each brand has a few negative reviews and generally a lot of very positive reviews. One reviewer said he bought Makita because everyone else on his job site had yellow and his tools were less likely to end up in someone else's bag.

Im not a fan of cordless tools but Makita is much better than DeWalt if we talk about battery life. Thats from my profession point of view. I dont know if u have Bosh brand in US but they are also HQ in professional tools.
