Colombians do salsa better than Cumbia in my humble opinion:


They do dance it differently than in Cuba, or Puerto Rico- more movement in the feet.
Even the kids in Cali can do it:

Well, it's difficult to say. Salsa, as I know and dance it, is trained movement in spontaneous combinations, this was entirely planned and don't know whether it had much in common with classical la salsa that I dance and know.

Also, I can't really say much to kids either. Salsa and dances like that are erotic, romantic, passionate and aggresive... children don't understand this concept and frankly salsa without erotic impuls is no salsa...

Dunno, maybe I'm oldschool. It's the dance that belongs to the streets, random combination, partner rotation and erotic expression likes of which can't be trained. They are spontaneous.

But I did enjoy those movies, they surely had those steps well trained and performed.

A good example would be this:


Typical salsa. Not too complicated, yet an amateur can't dance it. And it has that excellent impulse their interaction brings in, that you can't simply teach the children.


That's the salsa I love!

Salsa in Colombia has more in common with swing than the salsa danced else where. But strictly speaking Salsa came from the "big band" sound associated with swing.
The romantic salsa came much later.
