Photos of family hike in NorCal

I've shared these with a few folks already who have enjoyed them, so I thought I'd share them here. My son's Boy Scout troop had planned to do this hike but canceled it, but we decided to go on our own. This is southeast of San Francisco, overlooking Fremont and the south bay.

Mission Peak Hike

Note on the first photo: this is a panoramic photo made from compiling 11 individual photographs using PTGui. I'm only hosting small and medium-sized versions of this photograph as they can get to be very large files. I told Gabe about this software last year and he has since done some nice things with it.

Cheers,

Harvey

Looks gorgeous! Is that area too close to civilization to have a cougar concern?

Will have to hike that place one of these days. Where is the access point? Thanks!

Sorry for the delayed replies, I just got back from another hiking trip about 30-40 miles north of this location (Marin Headlands). Even more wildflowers today and I'll try to get photos posted soon. If we can fit it in, my son and I will be going on an overnight backpacking trip Wednesday night further north yet at Point Reyes.

Thanks, Howard! I did not see signs in the area for mountain lions but suspect they are around. The population of mountain lions has increased over time since voters in the state banned hunting them and they have been seen more often even nearer to cities than this. They find poodles, etc. to be tasty and easy prey. A jogger near Sacramento was killed by a mountain lion, she apparently seemed like good prey that was running.

Joe, I see you found one set of directions but I suggest not following that trail as it is a rather wide and boring looking route. We took the northern route. From my panoramic photograph the south trail is towards the left and is the wide trail that is out in the open the entire way. It seems more suitable for those taking bicycles up on the trails. These directions are not very specific, but explain the trail somewhat. http://www.sfbac.org/files/images/pd...issionPeak.pdf After taking the Mission Boulevard Exit dont' take the first Ohlone College exit but turn left on Pine Street and park in the "M" parking lot and pay $2 for parking. It has nicer scenery with trees shading some of the path, etc. Here are some other useful links: Hiking up Mission Peak from Ohlone College Trailhead and http://www.ebparks.org/files/Mission_Peak_map_2009a.pdf

Lovely views!! Half Moon Bay has amazing panoramas from Montara Mt. if you make it on a clear day :)

I've never been to Half Moon Bay but have wanted to go for a long time. I've gone on a lot more hikes since this post but usually just end up posting photos like that on Facebook these days.
