Thanks for waking memories ;).

These last 2 bring our chicken count to 10. 3 of them are old enough 2 lay eggs and 2 others will be laying eggs any day now...

2 of them lay an egg each and everyday have not taken one day off since they started...

You guys are making me so jealous! The town I grew up in a few miles from here used to be a few neighborhoods with maybe 3500 people 7 large farms a dairy farm I walked to to get the milk for my job and lots of woods and open space....that's how I grew up. Now it's all asphalt , shopping malls and condominiums:(

I'm not in the country my house is right in the middle of a bunch of neighborhoods. I'm sure a few of my neighbors don't like me much since I don't have a fancy manicured lawn and trying to turn what little space I have into a farm... hahaha

I would love to be able to move to a large piece of land further away from malls and parking lots!

I wish I would of figured out what I really enjoyed way earlier in life...

Martin, you got me goin again w/ your chickens! I always wanted chickens! I watched a Martha Stewart show when she ordered a case or crate of baby chickens & they were mailed to her house (I think) They were packed like eggs in a carton.
She's also known for having brite orange colored yolks cuz she feeds them marigold flower petals (I just remember that).
Someday, I will have chickens.
I went to West Bend State Fair this summer & saw so many diff kinds of chickens that were just too cool.
Your new babies are just too cute!

Those chickens will look cool when they get older. My Inlaws have chickens and their eggs are great fresh.

Precious Greg and Blake! I LOVE baby chicks!!!

Bad news here. A raccoon tore back the wire on top of one of the chicken coups and killed three of my high dollar Lavender Amerucana Bantams last night. Came back for more tonight. Greg is outside trying to kill it now. I only have two young hens and two roosters left in that breed now, and one of the roosters is wounded. :(

I just went out and locked the door on the barn. I am not sure how secure my other coups are. I really thought we had done a good job of protecting them and I am feeling so guilty for letting them down.

Sorry to hear about that! Those racoons can get through anything. Terrible thing to happen though. I hope the wounded one recovers and the coop gets built strong enough to keep the racoons out!
