New Documentary About CCD in Beekeeping

I find this new documentary interesting and share a reference to it because there was some discussion recently about this subject here on Bananas.org. One can choose to watch the video at the link below or buy it.

"New Movie Queen of the Sun Wonders: What Are the Bees Telling Us?
From the director of The Real Dirt on Farmer John comes the new documentary Queen of the Sun, a profound and disturbing look at the global bee crisis. Taking us on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysterious world of the beehive, this film weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the struggles of biodynamic & organic beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world. Engaging and ultimately uplifting, Queen of the Sun features Michael Pollan, Vandana Shiva, Raj Patel, Jeffrey Smith and Gunther Hauk."

Too bad they don't tell you more about there thoughts. I won't finance their project without more disclosure. My personal thought here are that we have bred a super bee that is not so super. It is "SUPER" only in the way that we want it to bee. I think we need to let the bee regress back to the way that it was. A smaller lees productive bee. It will then do what it was designed to do. Pollinate everything that our lives and its life depend on. Prior to mankind enslaving the bee it had 1000's of sources of pollen and lived at one spot. Now we take it to a mono pollen place and it eats whatever pollen is there. I don't think we would develop ideally if that was done to us. We all know that bees have unique abilities to navigate. While I don't understand it I can believe that loading them in a truck and transporting them halfway across the country must be somewhat disorienting and disturbing. I am not saying that we should not maintain and have bee hives; I just think we should take a long look at how we are doing it. The top bar hive is not designed for maximum honey production and encourages a more natural existence for the bee. If you are interested research this hive. I will be building several of these in hopes of getting more bee activity around my gardens. If and only if they produce a surplus of honey will I harvest any for myself. The honey is for the bees. Their pollination of my crops is what I get out of the deal.

PS They also make a unique form of daytime security. A lot of people are just plain scared to be around a field that is buzzing with Bees.
