Default Morocco

My girlfriend and I made two successive trips to Morocco, the first aircraft in the month of October 2008 where we traveled backpack, bus, taxi and on foot for three weeks, the second month of March 2009 or we went with my own car for three weeks after checking through Spain and took the boat to arrive to Tangier
First trip:
At the Casablanca airport, we took the train to El Jadida, which lies on the sea south of Casablanca ... We stayed three days in this city who is a former Portuguese colony
Here are some pics of plants and trees growing in the streets of the city

curious growing palmtree:

Here are some pictures of the harbor, the walls ,and the portuguese Tank who once served to store water for the city

After El Jadida, we went by taxi (because there was no bus) for Oualidia , a fishing village an hour away

Oualidia is bordered by a lagoon that is exposed at low tide, this place is famous for its fish and seafood

Of course we have benefited from this, and have eaten crabs and shells on the beach that we bought to fishermen who have prepared the food with a barbecue on the beach

the restaurant:

In Oualidia we slept in the hotel and eat in small restaurants in the village; ago in Morocco full of small shops where you can eat cheap ;careful not to drink tap water, in fact we drank mint tea during meals

the day is goin' down tomorrow early we have to take the bus for Agadir

We had a long way to go from Oualidia to Agadir and despite the dirty windows of the bus I tried to take some photos:

Morocco don't import the bananas, it grows mostly in greenhouses, but you can see them in open field north of Agadir on the banks of a river

this one is not very good...

We spent a day at Agadir, but we found a city attraction for tourists without special interest... We left the next day for a small town in the interior called Tafraoute we spent there 2 or 3 days

Tafraoute is a village surrounded by mountains and we made some treks in the areas ... The morning, breakfast we take tea mint bread and olive oil, honey or amlou . that's called Berbere brakfast. The amlou is a paste made of ground almonds, argan oil and honey; we took local donuts :" the sfinges"

Green filaments are actually leaflets of Chamaerops humilis cerifera, found in the wild throughout Morocco, and are used to attach them donuts for hungry customers

Argan oil is traditionally made from the villagers themselves ... argan nuts are roasted outdoors on a wood fire in a large metal container and then they are broken by hand with a stone and then passed through a rudimentary mill, mixture is collected in a settling basin and then after giving a cake and argan oil
This oil is non-food oil cosmetic is made with almonds that have not been roasted

Oualidia is identical to San Diego in latitude and climate for the most part. The ocean water temperature in Oualidia is slightly warmer due to the Mediterranean Sea. Otherwise we are both on the edge of a large continent with coastal mountains and an inland desert.

That looks like a great trip, I would like to go there someday.

Wink Re: Morocco

The Mediterranean Sea has no impact in this area cause it's 1000kms above and at this point water is not specially hot (18°C in october),but this is why it's a good spot for fishing ...In Oualidia, oysters are grown in the lagoon...Unfortunately I do'nt know the climate of San Diego but I would like to compare...

Our coastal water temperature is also 18 C at the moment, and will drop to 15 C by January.

If you mean, you hope to come across Tog Tan, I believe he passed away suddenly in June; I gathered as much from posts I came across around that time. Many here remember him in their signatures--harveyc, for instance. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. He was a great loss to this community from what I can tell.

We started walking from Tafraoute to try to find the gazelle Tazkha which is a prehistoric engraving ... arrived in the village, we heard a call: he was a young man who took us to visit a traditional Berber house that he has renovated ... We visited this house which is a labyrinth with few openings to stay cool ... Mahfoud (young man) has kindly offered mint tea and then he swowed us the famous engraved gazelle on a granite rock

Mahfoud's house

Mahfoud and Patricia drinking tea

the very stylized gazelle

sight from the traditional Berber house

all this area is made of strange look granite rocks...Mahfoud gave names for all like tortle or family (father mother and son) try to find them on the pics

We then took a small bus to the Canon of Ait Mansour about thirty miles ... the car in France typically contains 8 to 9 persons and here we were 21 inside ... The Canon of Ait Mansou ris famous for its dates, the best of Morocco and we have found is a paradise of palm trees stuck between the walls of the barrel

The "hotel" ,we were the only 2 customers

Toilets in front of the hotel

euphorbs growing on the rocks

We could catch it easyly with hands

Euphorb and lavanda(I believe)

The palms were very prolific
