A month and a half of clear skies and then the clouds start rolling in on the afternoon of the 13th :0491:
They finally let up around midnight (start of the 15th) so I got to see a bit of it but not the moon rise. |

I was in the Smokies for this event and the view was hindered because of the heavy smoke from the wild fires in the Tennesee and Carolina region. The smoke halved the detail of the moon. However the hot tub was quite comforting.:) Another midwest big event........Total solar eclipse in August 2017 . I will be at Mammoth Cave Kentucky for a few days for that one. I may have missed the best part of the super-duper moon but the clouds are gone again and Venus is shining bright in the SW sky right after sundown.

Re: Keep looking up!!
we get a good view of the moon rising here at the scarborough bluffs
the bluffs are over 300 feet tall and when you look east you see nothing but water so when the moon starts to rise up it looks extra big |
Re: Keep looking up!!
This New Years Eve Comet can be seen with assistance of binoculars or scope.
Read the article for more information The comet will appear to be a stationary fuzzy light near the moon so it is easier to find at the moment. The darker the sky is in your area the better. A comet on New Year's Eve? | Astronomy Essentials | EarthSky New Years Eve Comet by Hostafarian, on Flickr |

Re: Keep looking up!!
I saw the comet not too long ago! It was very easy to see here. You could even see it well without any equipment. Nice!
