![]() Hey everyone! Just booked a weekend in San Fracisco Jan. 13-17th. First time ever in Cali and looking for fun stuff to do! We are going to stay somewhere in fisherman's wharf so you know a tour to Alcatraz is going to be looked at, but my wife and I need some fun family places to take our 2 and 3 year olds as well as botanical places for me to go!
Thanks for the help! Bob |

![]() I can give more later, I will ask my wife as she is the trip coordinator. Oh and let me know if you can drive 20 minutes. If you drive just over the Bay Bridge you can also go to Berkeley and there is cool stuff there like The Berkeley Botanical Gardens run by UC Berkeley.

![]() Cool, you'll love it, congrats. I almost moved my family to San Francisco earlier this year.
You can also head into wine country just north of there, Napa Valley. Wish I could tell you more about some great places to see, I'm not the resident expert. I would PM Harvey C for some tips, he also has his chestnut farm within driving distance from there.

![]() Good Job Russell, on picking that up!
Smart thinking Jarred!, totally forgot about Napa Valley, I looooooooove wine! Not a big fan of chestnuts, but may have to talk to Harvey about making a stop his way considering I have heard about how nice the Correia family farm is from more than just this site. |

![]() Thanks Jack, I fully intend on it! The only thing that is going to suck is if I go to a nursery or garden center that has plants that are not sold in my area I'll have to ship them home since I don't think the airline will appreciate me carrying plants home on board.....especially if I see some 'neglected' nanners in someone's landscape and decide to do some "guerilla gardening" like I wanted to down in PCB, FLA this passed summer.

![]() I went there w/ 2 friends when I was 18... my first trip as an adult. We stayed near Fisherman's Warf. No car ...we hitch hiked everywhere - surprised we are still alive! That Bay bridge is much longer than the Golden Gate. I remember they have a cool China Town - great food but s'posedly dangerous to be there.
I'd definately visit Harvey & Nappa Valley. pm Harvey Oh yeah, it gets cold there! I was there in July & we had to wear jackets every day.

![]() Hey sorry I have not gotten any ideas from my Wife yet. She got home late after spending a day in San Francisco with her mom. At that time of night I just forgot.
I would like to say this though, if you are coming her you MUST go see the redwoods. Every single person who asks what to see in CA I say, REDWOODS! You can get museums, food and all that stuff anywhere but you can't get natural wonders anywhere. I think the closest redwood grove or forest worth seeing is Muir Woods Muir Woods National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) Named after the man mostly responsible for national parks. If you are a plant lover, nature lover, then you will love the redwoods. Trees over 300 feet tall, they create their own microclimate, with ferns, mushrooms, moss growing all over. I fell in love with redwoods the very first time I saw them, around 6 years old. Let me know how far you can drive and I will tell you where the best ones are that I have been. I promise that the redwoods will stay with you forever. I plan on living in the Santa Cruz area when I retire, redwoods everywhere. They used to be all over but logging took so much of them. Let me know if you are going I could even meet you there ![]() |
