Default I picked up a TB22EC for $5 at a yardsale

It won't start. No gas getting to plug no matter how much you pump. Air in the lines which is probably not good. Hey, I don't need a weed whacker for much; I need one for a few swipes. Don't tell me it's junk. I want to make this work because I'm not 6' tall and this model is a good length besides being fairly light. (And I already know the reviews stink.)

I've got a new carb coming in tomorrow or the next day. Yes, I could have just cleaned the other one because it's pretty obvious to me that the man who owned this didn't understand 40:1 and didn't read the manual that said "corn gas without additives" was not recommended so it's probably a gummy mess. (Anyone remember white gas? I do.) I purchased it from his wife at a yard sale--she knew I know.

Anyone want to walk me through the process? Got suggestions? T&T hints? Video links? (BTW, if I end up with a spare carb that works after cleaning--rebuild kits aren't available--I'll look for another non starter to rehab. Sometimes it's good to have an heir and a spare. )

I assume you did check the compression. Remove the spark plug and put your thumb tight over the hole. Then turn the crank. If the engine can't push air out past your thumb, then it can't breath and needs rings. A new carb will not help at this point.

You should also be able to feel the engine compression when turning the crank. The suction from the cylinder is what makes the carb work.

The "no gas" part reminds me of a chainsaw problem. Turned out the little fuel filter in the gas tank had come off the intake line. Good luck.

LOL.....I had to post this......

I race boats with weedeater type motors......but a little tweaked.

But mine run nitromethane.... or gas.

Kat... next time I am in the area.... I will let you drive one...or two.

So to answer your question .......it is ALWAYS the carb....replace, rebuild.

clean the fuel pump that's located on the bottom of the carb it is the flat plate with all the screws. put it together the same way you took it apart. while its apart take some carb cleaner and make sure all the passages are cleared. wear safety glasses, if they are not clear it will blow back in your eyes.

Kat, your did say there was air in the fuel line. Gas should freely flow from the tank to the carb. The weed wacker must have been stored without emptying the tank. Undo the fuel line at the carb to check gas flow. Clean the tank and fuel filter if not. Also, dried gas will stop up the carb. It can be cleaned with a carb cleaning spray.

Prior to beginning this project, I'd found a video on youtube about replacing the O ring; we tried that 1st. Yes! 69¢ part, new gas and she started right up. So now I have this carb that fits other weed eaters. What to do? Pay a restocking fee? Nah. Found a larger TB with "no start" issues on CL. $15? Nope. $10 was my limit. Carb was replaced 3 months or so ago; she won't start. Before I sacrifice my $20 part to an experiment (yes, it fits), we'll try the O ring replacement, shot of carb cleaner and new gas. I've found my new love--2 cycle engines!

Update: Mentor tried all methods you suggested along with what he knows (he restores BMW motorcycles and is by no means a dummy with internal combustion engines) but finally had no option left but to install that $19.79 new carb. Done! She runs! Phooey. I was hoping to milk the O ring thing but never resorting to a carb replacement. But sometimes you have to spend a few bucks to get her going.

I picked up a $5 Toro electric blower that I lent to my neighbors along with my 100' cord. They love it so much, they're happily storiing it for me. They want me to find them another. Maybe not. I reallyy want a 2 cycle blower that doesn't work; when worked as a landscaper, I loved the freedom of a backpack. So now I'm working on that also. Not sure what I'll find first but I'm done using my monster wet dry vac to blow.
