I think that basically what's happening now, and why people ARE spending, is because of 2 factors. One= People are going stir-crazy and are tired of saving and saving and no fun. Two= Some people are at the ends of their ropes, and have decided to throw in the towel when it comes to their finances, and borrow and spend on their credit cards so they have more justified reasons to file bankruptcy. My cousin is a BK lawyer, and he said that since May, the BK filing has steadily increased about 16% each month, and August, it was nearly double of what it was 12 months prior. Scary. But - don't tell that to your tax man! LOL

I think RJ is correct. People have learned to save and are getting good at paying off past bills and now have found out how to save a lil extra and have rewarded themselves for their effort. And I for one agree that they should, its nice to splerge on something to keep the motivation going.
