Re: Florida: The Frozen South
Sorry to hear... sad scene. This isn't the first time that a screwed up forecast has burnt me. They were forecasting 38 degrees as the low and suddenly decided on a freeze warning well after sunset. I would have at least done the Christmas light thing. I guess I just have to do it when temps are going to be below 40. What was the low up there? Hopefully the P-stem didn't get frozen.

A Crisp 33f NE Florida, the plants that i had on my concrete patio had no problems what so ever , only the ones in the dirt suffered .
Im going to dig up my Pr Dwarf & cut them back & plant them in pots untill weather gets better . |

Re: Florida: The Frozen South
Glad to hear it is still alive! I hope anyone down south affected by the freeze pulled through. My rule of thumb is that if the forecast ever predicts lows of 38 and down, ALWAYS be prepared for a freeze. Our forecast out here is usually wrong with lows in the winter.

Re: Florida: The Frozen South
I ended up removing all the Frost damaged leafs off all my Banana trees , The PS was not damaged ! ..
I figure that the PS should focus its energy in producing new leafs instead of wasting energy on dead leafs . Lets see what happens .. |
Re: Florida: The Frozen South
49 was my low last night. At my work in Belle Glade it was 35. It's amazing the difference that a few miles make.

Re: Florida: The Frozen South
The temps here are starting to rise a little and the plants love it. New leaves on many of them and most doing very well. We lost some leaves over the short spell but the leaves will become fodder for the cattle anyway.
Happy New Year to all and good health and growing. Lets make this a big "Banana" year. Click for weather forecast |

I'm actually running irrigation today, which means that I will probably get an inch of rain. Every time I irrigate, it rains later in the week.
