East meets west!

Well.... I got out for a rare (these days) visit to southern California to visit an old friend...
Got to meet some new ones too....
Being in Los Angeles I had to meet up with momoese( and meet his dogs... best way to judge someone ).... Thankfully for them I must report that his dogs were in need of serious attention .... I got there just in the nick of time....and ..... Penny and I are now officially friends for life...
:goteam:

of course after saying hi ... I got to climbing around in the garden...and found a Nam Wah bunch kind of appealing....

It was warm enough to enjoy dinner outdoors and at the end of a long and serious banana discussion Mitchel and I... and our better halves were......pretty well ok with the east and west coast banana growers society...( nice shirt buddy!)

Saturday I headed to San Diego and met up with Jon ( Pitangadiego)
I hadn't talked to Jon all that much since joining bananas.org but he was one of the guys who had always answered my emails and endless requests for information so I took the chance and asked for a tour of the farm........

Turned out to be a great move and Jon not only gave me and Anne ( aash09) an unrushed and informative tour of the farm but..... I got to eat some Misi Lukis...... too good to tell you how good they are......mmmmm!....
and then had the pleasure of hearing all I wanted ( which was everything)about every plant....you can't get that sort of tour just anywhere... Thanks Jon!
Ever heard of an Ice cream Bean Tree?..... Me neither!

Here's me and Jon and an "Altreano" fig which one of my friends is growing and should be a great choice for a container to produce lots of figs....

For the record ....I used to be a reasonably good musician and ....well.... didn't disappoint the southern California crowd after all these years

I took this shaky photo at 3 am Ca. time....

I shall return!!!:ha:

So glad you had a great time & thanks for posting pics!!
I think it's soo cool that you guys met here & actually met in person from clear across the country.
However, I am disappointed that Bob didn't steel momo's dog for me - couldn't fit it in the suitcase or some lame excuse. Now, I have to confess that while you were gone Bob, I went to your house to steal your cool dogs but they weren't there!! You have a nice place - very comfy.
BTW, you're out of vodka, beer & cheese :(
Hey, I left the leg lamp on in front porch so you could find your way home easier :)

It looks like everyone had a nice time, thanks for the pictures! A change of scenery is always welcomed after a long winter, in my opinion. The picture of you and Mitchel's dog is too funny!

I was just talking to Pete and realized that you and Anne are the 9th and 10th people I've met in person from this board! Who's next? Pete? A Vegas run to see Pauly?

A trip to remember. Nice to finally see some of you! (Jon and Momo). Keep threads like this coming. Ante, we'd better organize that European meeting. ;)

Re: East meets west!

I think we should have a 'Banana Esposition'. From the Citrus forum, we have a ctrus expo every year & went to 2 of them where I met other members of forum. There were lectures & gardens to see etc, & even fruit competitions.
It would be nice to taste diff varieties of nanas & see reall nanas in bloom & meet ppl from here. What State grow the most nanas? CA or FL??

Hey, I cleaned up my mess. That was from Mike's biker buddies!
They really liked your stereo. Were there a lot of complaints from neighbors about noise? :ha:

New Orleans sounds good to me! Half way... & I've never been there before.
