![]() At the time, I was standing at the bathroom sink. I heard a thumping sound outside, like someone pounding a fence post into the ground with a sledge hammer. (I don't know if it had anything to do with the quake, or not.) When I looked, I saw the water in the toilet swishing back and forth. When I checked outside, I couldn't find anyone in my, or the neighbor's yard. When I came back in, I saw the coverage on the TV.
This was my second encounter. Once, some years ago, I was in a hotel, in Hawaii, and I was awakened by some movement of the bed. I said, "What's going on? Oh, it must be an earthquake", and promptly went back to sleep. The next morning I saw, in the newspaper, that we had had an earthquake! |

![]() John, we indeed felt it. At first I thought of a monster truck driving down my suburban street, but as it continued and intensified, I thought of a terrorist attack. I guess that's what happens when you lived in NY on 9/11. No damage, but pretty emotional.

![]() Perhaps God is unhappy with D.C. and what they are doing to the nation, and this is His subtle way of trying to get their attention.

![]() I felt it here! I woke up early today so I was napping when the earthquake happened. The things on my shelf was making a ton of noise so I woke up. I looked out my window and all the trees were swishing back and forth! I was so amazed that I didn't even get out of bed to take cover somewhere (that and I thought I was dreaming!). I purposely looked at my pool to see if the water was swishing and it was! Everything was moving pretty significantly and the things on my shelf moved around a little bit.
Some people say it was only 10 seconds long, but I thought it was more like 30 seconds. But thankfully no damage! Its a wake up call because we should be prepared for things like this even if they arent something thats common!

![]() My lifeguard stand started rocking. I didn't know what was going on at first! I spent the rest of the day answering "is a tsunami coming?".

![]() I know it's a little late, but, ppl here in Milwaukee felt it! I think about the time it happened, I was in our new & local hospitol (tests) so it wasn't felt there. Few ppl here were on news saying the floor shook...glasses tinkering. I did witness one (forget where it actually happened) here about 6-7 yrs ago. About 2 am, I couldn't sleep so went in kitchen for drink of water. Floor shook & glasses on shelves were clicking. I too thought it was a big truck going by but saw it on news next day. Lasted less than 10 sec's.

![]() If you haven't seen this, it's pretty amazing. Taken from the security camera in the Washington Monument.
