Wow. I'm not really sure that one day will make a difference, but OK, what the heck!
I guess it will be a problem-free day in the work, Ante.
Linemans and electricians of the world, unite and let's have a free day, yeaaaaaay.

I hope this thread won't change into climate change discussion!!!

Bob, pssst. 6°C at 3:25PM in your area? Pretty cruel, ay?

I can't see any point in shutting down for one hour
I prefer to work on ways to save energy all year long
When people like Al Gore use more energy in one month then 12 other households - basically what I use in one year - it makes no sense to me to shut down for an hour

Think so? Somebody have to do all that extra switching and power manipulations! Extra hours, night shifts,...,100%

The other "problem" that was uncovered with Earth hour is that the utilities are still producing the power
So it doesn't save power in most cases
The power is still there....just not being used
So its better to cut use long term & permanent rather then just for an hour

I just changed the circulation setup for my SW aquarium
I'lll be saving over 8kwh a day, maybe more, by eliminating a large power sucking pump
I'm also eliminating the 40g sump in the basement
That means less water to heat, plus the water is not being circulated down to the 55 degree basement in the winter

I won't be able to tall much savings until maybe next month
With the rain the sump pump has been running & I had 2 dehumidifiers running for over a week
This after using a wet vac to get up the small amount of water that leaked in

What type of setup are you now running? I had a 50 gallon trash can sump downstairs for topoffs. Sure was handy. I eliminated it in a similar attempt to save money.I used a Mag drive and a Quiet One for my pumps. The metal halides were the big $$ pit, not counting the chiller!

I have a 125g tank upstairs
I use Tunze pumps now for water movement
Only about 20-25w each & they can move 1500-3000 gph
I sold off all my corals a few years ago...going towards just fish right now
I had (3) 250w Halogen DE bulbs running

Eventually I will probably go back to corals
Once the addition is finished & we decide where the main tank will go
I have a 300g tank for out there

I have a chiller but never used it
Cycling water to the basement used to keep the tank cool while running halides
I had the 40g sump running & another 75g tank
A few times if we had a heat wave I'd run an AC in the house for a few hours

Actually some reported that the quick decrease in power consumption can cause problems
As they then have to shed the extra power
Then an hour later everyone is back & they have to adjust again

I show my support by shutting off all the lights inside and outside. I keep the TV on and appliances plugged in, but it still proves a point, which is the main purpose of Earth hour. Still it is much more effective if people would just learn to turn off lights when not in use, or unplug your cell phones when fully charged, or unplug appliances you dont plan to use in the near future. I am not a firm belier in human caused climate change, but I do believe that we should conserve out resources, and limit all our pollution, including light pollution.

Good luck!

Electric appliance in the electric socket behaves like an unlimited high Impedance and thus prevents the current from moving. Essentially the voltage present within the appliance is constant and the current is 0, which means there is absolutely no P - or in other words - the work and consumption of your electrical appliance is equal to what electric power must provide the appliance with and using the formula we get that this value is in High Impedance state equal to 0 (P=U.I or U.I.e^j(Psi-Fi) or better known as a(effective)+bj).
ENERGY TRANSFER to your device in the high impedance state is 0.

In other words shortly, plugged, yet unused electric devices, fully charged phones etc. do not consume energy in any case. If they did, your phone would burn within several minutes after being fully recharged...
