Current News Events Discussion Thread

I've been noticing something very disturbing lately on the news, that seems to be happening with increasing frequency...

ANIMAL ABUSE!

I am horrified at some of the reports of things that are being done to sweet little innocent animals. It breaks my heart. It seems the abusers are usually adolescent or young adult men, that are doing these things. But Why?! :(

I find the news anymore is very depressing and I take some of it to heart, so I can only take it in doses. I dislike the sensationalism and distortions of the facts that are presented at times too.

How about that unimaginable bastard, bin laden?! So happy we won't be hearing from him anymore. I know many people feel the same. Canada was celebrating right along with the US when we heard the wonderful news. :D

Anyway, I just thought this could be a thread to discuss issues on the news...but not for a huge political or religious debate. I dislike threads that encourage fighting among members, and especially putting others down for their beliefs or opinions.

Any news issues you wanna discuss though, feel free...

JaNan, are your friends and family in the Missouri area, ok? I\'m worried because the place was torn up bad. :(

Please let me know...

I was going to mention something fun I saw on the news tonight but it just doesn\'t seem appropriate at this time. Maybe later...

We have heard from most of them and they are OK. There are lines and towers down so I think that is an issue for communication. Thanks for asking Sherry!

Canada Post might go on strike tomorrow! Hope no one plans on sending me anything! :ha:

I don't know if they're going to settle and take the offer but I guess we'll know tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Well it was a temporary rotating strike but now our Canada Post mail service is on a complete flat-out strike!!!

This means that nothing goes out nor comes into the country! We are still getting our bills of course because companies hire private carriers to deliver them! :ha:

Unfortunately, those who I've promised plants too, will have to be patient and wait until our mail service is up & running again. :(

This really stinks though. I guess they're negotiating daily so hopefully it won't last long. We once had a mail strike that last three months!

How's this for irony and stupidity that ended tragically?

How absolutely terrible, Howard! :( Why do people do these stupid things?!

It reminds me of the president of MADD (Mother's Against Drunk Driving) a little while ago, getting arrested for driving impaired!

Thanks for the article. So sad...and so unecessary.

What a hideous, evil, horrible person that guy is!!! I am still stunned from reading that.

The worst part is that Nike just re signed him, and Subway sponsored his BET Sportsman Of The Year Award. :(

I'm absolutely disgusted by what's happening. If you can throw a football you can ruthlessly torture and murder animals and still be presented as a role model for kids.

It's outrageous and completely CORRUPT!!! That guy is barbaric!

I'm totally disgusted right along with you! I noticed there's a number and a site where you can give comments...

I've called Nike, BET and Subway, also left emails. Have also joined several boycott groups, left comments on all kinds of sports articles, etc.

Good for you, for standing up for what's right. More people should. I intend on doing the same.
