This is a heart-breaking situation. I have signed up to help, I hope you will also.

Please help.

Since September 11, 2001, Americans have come together as never before in our generation. We have banded together to overcome tremendous adversity. We have weathered direct attacks on our own soil, wars overseas, corporate/government scandal, layoffs, unemployment, stock price plunges, droughts, fires, mad cow, SARS, high gasoline prices, and a myriad of economic and physical disasters both great and small. But now, we must come together once again to overcome our greatest challenge yet.

Hundreds of Professional Football players in our very own nation are going to be locked out, living at well below the seven-figure salary level. And as if that weren't bad enough they could be deprived of their life giving pay for several months, possibly longer, as a result of the lockout situation. But you can help!

For only $27,080 a month, about $902.75 a day (that's less than the cost of a large screen projection TV) you can help an NFL player remain economically viable during his time of need. This contribution by no means solves the problem as it barely covers the annual minimum salary, but it's a start, and every little bit will help!

Although $900 may not seem like a lot of money to you, to a football player it could mean the difference between spending the lockout golfing in Florida or on a Mediterranean cruise. For you, nine hundred dollars is nothing more than a month's rent, a mortgage payment, or a month of medical insurance, but to a football player, $900 will partially replace his daily salary.

Your commitment of less than $900 a day will enable a player to buy that home entertainment centre, trade in the year-old Lexus for a new Ferrari, or enjoy a weekend in Rio.

HOW WILL I KNOW I'M HELPING?

Each month, you will receive a complete financial report on the player you sponsor. Detailed information about his stocks, bonds, 401(k), real estate, and other investment holdings will be mailed to your home. Plus, upon signing up for this program, you will receive an unsigned photo of the player lounging during the lockout on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean (for a signed photo, please include an additional $150). Put the photo on your refrigerator to remind you of other peoples' suffering.

HOW WILL HE KNOW I'M HELPING?

Your NFL player will be told that he has a SPECIAL FRIEND who just wants to help in a time of need. Although the player won't know your name, he will be able to make collect calls to your home via a special operator in case additional funds are needed for unforeseen expenses.

YES, I WANT TO HELP!

I would like to sponsor a locked out NFL player. My preference is (check below):

[ ] Offense [ ] Defense [ ] Special Teams [ ] Entire team

Please charge the account listed below $902.75 per day for the duration of the lockout. Please send me a picture of the player and my very own Roger Goodell (NFL Commissioner) pin to wear proudly on my hat (include $80 for hat).

At least there will be college football to watch. I do feel for some of the players though. Most of the guys really have nothing to fall back on because they majored in some easy major or perhaps didn't even finish college. I used to have a guy working for me that played for Florida State in the mid-90s. He was a good player and probably could have made it to the NFL. Tore his ACL, lost his scholarship and now he is driving a tractor for 9.50/hr.

'Pastafarian' Man Wins Right To Wear Colander On Head in Driver's License Photo

Supernatural Waste Watchers
Niko Alm in his religious headgear, a pasta strainer.
He calls it a "religious head covering." It looks oddly like a pasta strainer.

After a three-year effort, Austrian man Niko Alm has finally earned the right to wear the symbolic Ikea kitchen tool on his head in his driver's license photo, saying it is a requirement of his faith. The BBC has the full story.

Alm belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, whose followers call themselves "Pastafarians."

A description:
Pastafarianism is a real religion.

Most of us do not believe a religion - Christianity, Islam, Pastafarianiasm - requires literal belief in order to provide spiritual enlightenment. That is, we can be part of a community without becoming indoctrinated. There are many levels of belief.

To outsiders it makes us hard to define, but here are some general things that can be said about our beliefs:

We believe pirates, the original Pastafarians, were peaceful explorers and it was due to Christian misinformation that they have an image of outcast criminals today

We are fond of beer

Every Friday is a Religious Holiday

We do not take ourselves too seriously

We embrace contradictions (though in that we are hardly unique)

Okaaaay.

According to Austrian law, wearing a head covering is not allowed in driver's license photos except for religious reasons.

However, this may not be a complete win for Pastafarianism--a police spokesman told the BBC that the photo was not approved on religious grounds, but rather because Alm's entire face is visible, a requirent for license photos. Alm's next step is to help make Pastafarianism an officially recognized faith in Austria.

I am absolutely sickened!

Did anyone else see the news program recently about a Boy Scout leader that was molesting kids?!

Yeah I guess this pediphile was not even put on the sex offender's list and was able to travel from city to city acquiring jobs as a Scout leader and gaining the trust of many unsuspecting parents and children!

What's worse is that the Boy Scouts organization tried to cover it up and didn't even fire him at first! It was totally outrageous.

I used to belong to the GirlGuides of Canada and I shudder to think of something like that happening to us girls. How horrible. Those poor boys.

I guess the evil bastard was even arranging camping and sleepovers so he could perform his filthy deeds. It went on for years and in the end he only went to jail for a short period of time after molesting hundreds of boys!

And not only him, but the defensive coordinator at Penn State- at least 8 young boys he molested over a 15 year span. And who finally reported it to the authorities (cops), a young abuse victim himself. Where the hell were the adults in this situation. Oh yes, too goddamn busy counting their income from the football program under Coach Paterno.

More of the same I see, Howard. Disgusting!

I guess this guy started out in the US and then fled to Canada and both the Boy Scouts of America and of Canada covered this sick pediophile's crimes and enabled him to go on molesting more children for many years to come!

Talk about bad publicity for the boy scouts organization! What parent would ever send their child there again?! I mean they allowed it to go on and covered it up!

Red face Re: Current News Events Discussion Thread

Did anyone see the news the other night when they reported about something called "Re-Gifting"?!

It was kinda funny, but I'm not sure what to think about it. Re-Gifting is where you give a gift someone gave you, usually one you didn't like, away as a gift to someone else!

I was raised to say 'thank you' for a gift, whether I liked the item or not...and that giving it away was kind of rude. I would be mortified if the person found out I'd given their present for me, to somebody else!

Wouldn't you?

Not if it was a fruitcake - some of those have been re-gifted for decades (and are STILL edible).

Now that is something I would definitely have NO guilt about "re-gifting" either, Yug!

I'm not a fan of fruit cake and the thought of something being 10 years old and still edible, turns my stomach!

Brix (the admin at another forum) signed a anti-SOPA petition and got this in his email from the White House. It explains what they are doing.
Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Yahoo are having a blackout on January 23 to protest SOPA. If you click on those they wont be working and you will only see an anti-SOPA ad when they do that.
