![]() There's no doubt that it's been unreasonably hot lately. But apparently if climate change continues this could become the new norm. |

![]() It is difficult to predict what future weather will be. We will just have to wait. Weather often runs in cycles that seem to not be easy to forcast. In my region of florida it has not felt much hotter than normal. There has been rain and the near by land appears normal. August and early fall are the dry months for us here.

![]() The Mississippi river froze once almost to New Orleans. I am sure they were saying ice age was coming back then.

![]() I just think it's kind of alarming. Current trends are showing that extreme heat like this is becoming more and more common. 40,000 daily heat records broken....that doesn't seem normal to me.
I mean, weather does go in cycles. The medieval period was historically warm, and the period after that was historically cool. There have been warm and cool periods ever since the end of the last Ice Age. The recent temperature spike however is so large that it dwarfs anything we have seen in the past few thousand years. Is it normal? I don't think so. Although recent rises in solar activity could be a contributing factor, I think human activity is mostly to blame. ![]()

I don't think there has been much debate about climate change or global warming as it is easy to see that things have warmed up. The real debate is over how much humans have to do with the process and whether or not we can actually do anything about it. Weather does not equal climate. |

![]() Right. There are obviously a lot of factors that are contributing to climate change. For example, solar activity has increased lately, the Earth's magnetic field is shifting, etc. Although based on how emission rates of greenhouse gases correlate with warming, it's safe to say that human activity has the biggest piece of the pie. But how big is the biggest piece?

Here's the deal, IMHO, we are never going to significantly stop greenhouse emissions world wide. The more we stop here, the more others countries emit more. We kill our GDP and increase the GDP of foreign countries, some of which don't really like us. I do not believe that there is a solution. Nothing on Earth lives forever unless it can adapt. I'm not sure if the human race can adapt enough but we seem to have the technology to adapt. After all, for example, we started out naked living in caves and now we have AC and heated houses with electricity built to withstand hurricanes and earthquakes. Thats quite a lot of adapting. In the short term I'm thinking I have a better chance at growing some of those tropical bananas!

![]() The thing is though there are alternatives to fossil fuels. I mean, we may never stop using them entirely, but at least there are things like electric and biofuels that have less of an impact. Also, we can run the country on geothermal power if we really wanted to. Apparently there is enough heat in the crust of the United States to power the country many times over. The reality is, in my opinion, that we're just not trying hard enough.

![]() Sure we have made a impact. But nature runs on a cycle and nothing says it has to be the same as it was last year or 50 years ago. We can not fix any damage we did, sure we could do stuff a lot smarter, cheaper as in not wasting money where its not needed, cleaner. But the US alone doesn't want to waste the time with that

Kentucky Bourbon - It may not solve the problem but it helps to make it tolerable! I think I'll have that Bourbon now! Let's see I think they said 2 1/2 degrees in 250 years and 1 1/2 in the last fifty. That's a six fold increase. At that rate we should see 2 1/4 degrees in the next 12 1/2 years if the rate of increase remains constant. That would be 9 degrees warmer just after the middle of the century. My children should easily be able to grow mangos in the next fifty years. To see the humor in this is to understand that we cannot nor will we reverse this. It ain't gonna happen. Besides Someone will probably push the OH SH*T button in the next fifty years. Blown281 said it best, Quote:
