For the bird lover's
I've always wanted one of these birds (who knows if I will ever be able to afford one). I came across the cutest video of this Hyacinth Macaw on youtube.com and wanted to share it with you bird lovers. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did. It made me smile.

Re: For the bird lover's
Try the African Grey. She will talked you to death.
One scenario: My wife after seeing the mess Buddy made from the seeds she was eating: Wife: "Oh, buddy, you made a lot of mess" Buddy: " Quiete!" Wife: " Look at you, you don't even want to help but make a lot of mess" Buddy:" Mom, clean the floor!" And if we laugh, she will laugh too imitating our laughter. And the more we laugh the longer she laugh. And she doesn't want to be outdone. If you whistle a tune, she will whistle twice as long and if we sang in a karaoke she will sang too with high notes and low notes she can do it but saying unintelligent words.

Re: For the bird lover's
A friend of ours had an african grey that was usually near the phone, and would join in the conversations, imitating Rosa's voice so well that the conversations would become surreal as you couldn't tell which was which. haha! Great birds!

Yes, many times she fooled me. I thought my wife is calling me and when I dashed downstairs to find out what she wanted, no wife but only buddy.

Re: For the bird lover's
African Greys are very intelligent, I wouldn't deny that. But there is something so majestically beautiful about the Hyacinth Macaw. There's also a pair of them on youtube that has the kindest eyes I've seen on a bird. They are dubbed the gentle giants of the macaws. And yes Cassie, they are my favorite as well... I'd pay ten grand to have one, if only I could afford it, sometime in the future I will definately like to have one as a companion.

Re: For the bird lover's
Amber:
I agree 100 %. But Buddy is now considered as one of the family since we have her for 3 years now. We paid $900 for her and we thought it's well worth it. The naughtiness that she had made for 3 years was well worth it. My wife just would not leave the pet store without her once she started laughing and imitating her just about everything she said and more. She even said to her the first time we saw her " What's up sucker?" Oh, we have a cat too that is considered as one of the family. But that is another story.

Re: For the bird lover's
Sadly I'm going to have to wait a couple years or so for a macaw, I have a pair of cats. And I know birds and cats can co exist, but I have a cat that's part bengal (the cat breed) and I would never trust her with even a big macaw in the house. So I'd like to wait till she gets a little older and mellowed out. My other cat, he's a big boy and a true glutton (though we moniter him as best as we can) From my understanding African Greys are great birds, and very smart. I liked watching about Alex (an african grey), the bird that scientific community called, "that darn bird" because he proved in a lot of ways, that he was capable of cognitive thinking. "Which key is smaller?" the woman would hold up two keys, a yellow, and a red one, "Red" he'd say, and he'd be right. He could count to 6. Knew his colors, shapes, ect. They used from what they learned from teaching him to teaching people with mental disabilities. I was sad when I read he passed away last year.

Re: For the bird lover's
I have heard that African gray can outlived people. They live Fifty years or so.
Yes cats and birds can coexist. Matt just ignored Buddy all the time. Buddy is very aggressive to everyone except me. I can do anything to her but my kids and wife can not touch her or else she'd bite. She would run after Matt when she saw her on the hallway but Matt ignored her completely. Matt woulld just walked away. But I know how vicious Matt can be from the wild birds and mice she caught. She'd leave the heads or tails outside the sliding door many times before. Buddy's favorite place is sitting on my shoulder. She'd climb up to my shoulder and loved to be pet on the head. She'd close her eyes and lean on to my neck while I pet her while Matt is contented putting her head between my toes. Boy, what a life I have. I end up babysitting these two.

Re: For the bird lover's
I was watching a woman with clicker training, for birds. And from what she was doing she taught the bird positive reinforcement not to bite the husband (whom the bird bit often) and the bird would step up for him in a little under a week. As for my cat, bengals, are hybridized cats, their wild relative, was a chinese type of wild cat whose main source of food was birds. She's very huntmode alot, sometimes just the movement of a hand makes her that way. I've seen her leap up 6 feet straight up without a real running start and catch a fly. With her, until she gets older and mellows out, I wouldn't even consider even a big macaw. Here is the link for that clicker training.

Re: For the bird lover's
Ahava - as you know, those bengal cats are mini leopards - gorgeous but not the same as domestic cats and really not to be in the same environment as birds. lol. Some years ago I really wanted one but could not afford it - stunning animals and you are so lucky to have one. I opted for my shaded silver persian who was a prince among cats.

Re: For the bird lover's
You can post youtube videos directly in threads!
Grab the part of the link that looks like a bunch of letters, numbers, and characters - in your link, for example would be this part: W3b3kqact8U Then surround that with yt tags, exactly like this: PHP Code:
Lets look at it again, carefully. The parts must be used exactly like shown, and that reads aloud like this: open bracket, y, t, close bracket, youtube identifier, open bracket, slash, y, t, close bracket Anyway, thats how you do it, and without further ado, here's the video: [yt]W3b3kqact8U[/yt] Best regards!

Re: For the bird lover's
I worked at a pet store many years ago and we had a Hyacinth. Him and I got along very well and it was a sad day when I came into work to find out he was sold.
The blue is brilliant as is the yellow. They are very large and their claws are about as big as yours. Ours was super friendly, but not very vocal. Oh, and the pricetag at the time? Ten grand, and from what I remember, I think we sold him for eight grand.
