Battling with spider mites!
I couldn't find the best place to put "Plant Pest" conversation..so hope this is ok, or we need "Plant Pest" Category.
I've been just wiping or picking off leaves and branches off to get rid of those spider mites! They sure keep reappearing in my tropical-green-sunroom. I hate to do with spraying chemicals because I have edible vegetables and Kalamansi-citrus and other fruits so what do I do? Maybe I need to order neem oil so I can mix it w soap for spray. Never ending battle...

Re: Battling with spider mites!
ya they are showing up on some of my EE now too..
seems like only they young/smaller plants though... wonder if leaves on older/established plants is "tougher" and mites cant feed on them..?? dont know.. i agree with ya on not using pesticides too.. what i do.. i put potted plants in bathtub.. check the water temp..and turn the shower on them.. seems to wash away alot of the mites.. sure did a good job on them last yr.. i had alot of smaller plants.. this yr..its the pups off mother plants that are being attacked.. also i did have to do it couple times a month.. im sure i washed some of the mites into the soil..so they didnt really go away.. but the plants survived the winter for planting out in early summer.. good luck to ya !!! |

Re: Battling with spider mites!
At the top of the banana.org page, you will see on the upper right side a "search". Type in "Spider mites". All the threads and information on the site will be available for you to read.
The best solution I have found is to spray with liquid IVORY SOAP/water in a spray bottle. Be sure to cover all areas of the plants, remove as many infested leaves, branches, etc. You must spray ALL the plants in the same area where you see the infestation. |

Re: Battling with spider mites!
Thanks guys. I finally found the "Banana Plant Health And Maintenance Topic." And under that category, found this link about spider mites. Battling spider mites every year. It has good information. I don't know why I didn't see that before..always learning.
