Last November I had 20 hands of AeAe bananas to eat within two weeks. This year no fruit. I have cut off two flower stems to allow the pups to grow faster. It has worked better then I thought it would. Last year I gave out 3 pups and this year only 2 pups (and they were from the 4th pup that I kept) I hope to give out at least 6 pups by next mid summer. If your in the program area be sure you get in line. Sean and Jarred can you send me a jpg. of your Ae Ae? You hopefully will have some pups for nest summer.

Beautiful photos, Warren. It would be nice to see how some of the others from last year are doing. Must have been a big job for Jarred to move his large plant recently. Since I'm not in the project area I referred my acquaintance Warren to you; glad to see he got a nice pup!

Those are beautiful photos. I would love to try my hand at the Ae Ae here, but because I'd either have to dig it up each year, or keep it potted, I figure I'd be wasting my time. A finicky banana probably isn't worth the money at the moment - at least in my area.

Brent told me last year that when he was St. Louis the gardens there had Ae Ae that they would whack back year year and pot up and move into the growing houses until the following spring. It sounded like it was very successful and lots of pups were produced.

Plantaseeds, you don't have your location marked. To be eligible for the program, you need to be in south Florida. Just a FYI.

I thought there are members who have Ae'-Ae in your area. Scot and Pauly are in Vegas, and they have Ae'-Aes. I believe they are even in a warmer area than you. And Possibly colder, too, depending on what part of Vegas.

Think part shade and misters for humidification!

I can relate to Annas fear of investing in AeAe. There have been times here where I'd forget to water a shaded plant for one day, and the next day I've got yellowing leaves. I would hate to spend the money on AeAe for it to do terrible here! Yet Scott and Pauly give me hope, as my climate is much akin to Vegas. I'm just waiting to find one for the right price before I give it a shot. AeAe is truly the one plant that I think is too beautiful to NOT give a shot. Maybe I will find some in Hawaii next year if I can't convince the lass sooner that a $150.00 plant is a good investment.

thats right Scot and i both have Ae Ae scot grows his out doors and i grow mine inside i dont mist mine however just the ones out side but iv taperd that off too they seem to have adapted to the low humidity buy producing waxer leafs it gets to about 25deg here in the winter but only on rare ocations mostly it huvers around 35ish

Just my observation here... I have a friend who has like 10 Ae Ae's in Bangkok. They are planted on the ground outdoor in brightly lit areas. Some were under the shade of trees and all seem to be doing very well. So this plant is pretty heat tolerant as you know it really cooks in the summer there.

But Bangkok is humid, right? I think the main problem with high heat here in the western U.S. is that humidity is low and can dry out banana leaves. Need to make sure they are well-watered and, as some have done, maybe use misters.

Bangkok is decently humid except their sorching summer and dry cool winter. I did not take into the account of the dryness in certain parts of the States. Where I am the humidity is fine but if you go to Borneo, your sweat just stays on the exposed parts of your body and do not dry out. So, many of the plants from there can't even be grown here. Philippines is similar to Borneo and that's probably why the Ae Ae needs so much humidity since it originated from there. Kudos to the way you guys take care of your 'nanas.
