Yellow to orangeish fungus

My great uncle, (keep in mind, he's 78) has a few pit fruit trees that he doesn't really take care of. And I was wondering if there's anyone that would know what that fungus actually is (assuming it is one) I don't have any pictures but it looks something like this:

Instead, it blankets the bark more thoroughly. It's on almost all his trees. Some seem to be dying, (no thanks to the untreated sunburn) others are still leafing just fine, and the citrus and pine on the property seem to be completely resistant. Is there a treatment for this? The reason I inquire is because, I would like to plant a few pit fruit varieties next spring, out here (to help him out. He loves the fruit, but really has no idea how to raise them beyond occassional waterings) - but that fungal whatever it is, seems to spread fairly quickly. (I could be wrong, as to cause of sickness but, I would still like to know what it is. If anyone has an idea)

Thanks ahead of time guys. =)

Nevermind. I figured out what it is. I'm assuming it's Lichen, from the sources I studied. Thanks to all, who looked over and read this thread.:D
