I just got my first rose plant this year. It was bare root plant. It is suppose to be a dark purple color, but I have been ripping off the new buds to encourage new growth. It seems to be working. I will let the next one go just so I can try and post a pic. I think it will take a LOT of sun, leaves and roots before it makes the true color. But I am new to this.

I did years ago. They're very easy to propagate if you follow Martha's technique with pricey cloches or do what my octogenarian neighbor who'd lived in her house since the 20s and had roses older than her did--cut branch (with a 5 leaf at the end and for some reason a spent bloom on top helps), do a little stripping, poke a hole in an area that gets afternoon shade, stick branch in, fill a quart canning jar with water, pour it on the "plant" then use it to cover your work and promptly ignore it for at least 4 months.

What kind is that, Tony? I love coral/peach flowers.

I have a lot of roses. But I just do my best to water them and give them some rose food, banana peels or coffee grounds on occasion. I have one HUGE pink blooming one that has a enormous amount of scent. No idea what kind that is, since it was labeled to be yellow.

I recently found Peace roses at a Tractor Supply store but one died. Then the other one bloomed and it's not the classic Peace bloom at all. More like a yellow bloom with some pink tinge.

One of my paltry bareroot roses that wasn't exactly thriving, died in one of the freezes. The rootstock put out growth though and thrived. So now it's easily 7-8+ft high, mostly long canes. I wasn't getting any blooms though, and I finally got annoyed with the canes whacking me in the face and brutally cut it all back(just the end 3-4ft of each cane getting in my way) and stuck the cut canes into the ground(no planting, no rootone, no care). Now the thing is bigger than ever, the canes I stuck in the ground almost ALL survived and grew and it's covered all over in tons of blooms. I counted on one 2 ft branch over 50 buds/blooms.

Sure, it's not a real tea rose type of bloom but the color is extremely rich and vibrant red. The petal count seems better now that I threw some rose food on it too.

It's labeled a Charisma, it has extremely small, high petal count blooms. No clusters of blooms though, single blooms like a regular tea. I bought it as a bare root for $3 so any bloom is okay with me. I do wish I could get it to make larger blooms. The color is bizarrely bright, almost like there's a LED type light inside it.
This is what it looks like in the sunlight...
