When I lived in clay country

I used to scoff at all those recommendations for using sand as a medium to root plants; shoot, a 50lb bag of that "white" stuff was $6 in the 90s and more now (Kids with real sandboxes had rich parents.)

Well, I'm now living where clay is a pipe dream and sand is reality. From one extreme to another--the joke is on me.

So, being very cheap and since this stuff is free, I want to know how you use it for rooting cuttings. Set up a bucket full and stick twigs in it?Could someone give a brief primer or good link on the approach? What plants don't want sand? What will root in it? (I have Rootone.)

BTW, my attempts to root things here in enhanced potting soil have met with mixed results; I'm used to 90% in my own compost but not 50% or less. Sheesh! (Don't get me started on germination rates here....)
