This time of year my squash and melon plants develop mildew and other fungi on their older leaves due to an occasional over-night marine layer that creeps in around midnight and leaves about 7am. In the past I've controlled this with Poly-Sul, but this year I'm trying "Ortho Garden Disease Control". At a glance the main ingredient is something you'd probably never use, but reading the details of the chemical report I might use it once or twice per year to control serious outbreaks: Chlorothalonil - toxicity, ecologicial toxicity and regulatory information

I haven't had to do anything like that yet this year (touch wood) but I did spray a fine mist of water on some of my orchids today.

richard i used Chlorothalonil on my palms because they suffered some epic leafspot disease.
however Chlorothalonil is way to toxic for organisms and it hasn't been tested enough, especially the effect it has on humans ? i am very sure this chemical will have Endocrine Disruptive effects on humans, thus attacking the immune system. insects that come in long time contact with this chemical can have genetic mutations or will suffer from diseases, alot of organisms have certain symbiotic relations with some fungus. Never spray around when there is too much wind for your own safety and the safety of aquatic organisms, after i applied it my neightbours fishes died next day. even beneficial fungus in soils can be killed, apply it only when it does not rain and spray the plan thin. This chemical is so effective it wouldn't suprise me if they use it as a chemical weapon in war. you really have to ask yourself would i use this chemical also - ethical, and i certainly wouldn't eat fruit or vegetable that has been sprayed with this chemical throughout it's history, it's way to toxic and hasn't been tested enough. and for your safety wear a NBC gasmask and a rubber suit because i already had problems like skin burning , pain in my eyes and i used goggles and mouthcovers + protective clothing. this year i will have leaf spot on my palms for sure it comes back every year i found other solutions to fight it, i use fresh aloe vera juice from my own aloe plants mixed with 2- 5% coconut oil, garlic juice and leek and spray it with a diluted small ammount of copper based fungicides. fresh concentrated coconut oil has very good anti fungal properties, i usually put it on the fruits of my plants. don't put it on the leaves because it will block most stoma. Coconut oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Many Benefits of Coconut Oil and Coconut Butter in my opinion if you use Chlorothalonil then use it very diluted. Chlorothalonil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia CHLOROTHALONIL ( check the hazard ranking)

My outdoor plants are in the middle of another growth flush. The pyrethrins I spray my needy plants with periodically have been keeping the insects down in most places. However, the white flies have started moving into the citrus & fushias, and the local locusts have laid millions of eggs on selected leafs of my pumpkins, melons, and squash. So this morning I removed blossoms from these plants (no need to kill bees) and sprayed them with Malathion. I have yet to find anything else that will eliminate them from these plants in my location.

I have used Neem Oil sold under the Green Light brand several times to eradicate spider mites from fruiting plants. It has been very effective.

My mom sprayed a mixture of 1T bleach and 1T dish soap in a gallon of water on her cukes for mildew and it seemed to work. you might give that a shot.

I used some zero/glysophate about four years ago
I splashed some soapy water on the aphids last week I made some white oil (1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp detergent, 1 litre water) and used it on some citrus miners about 4 months ago. Havn't sprayed much at all in the time we've lived here. If I can't squash it or wash it - I try to encourage something that will kill it.

I sprayed with Spinosad this morning on my Citrus as a pre-emptive strike against the Citrus leaf miner. The citrus have just started a growth flush.

I don't know if you have the climate to be able to feed a little earlier in the hope of beating the leaf miner.... just a thought on another way to try...

Buy a new sprayer and save that one for herbicides. The herbicide chemicals have a nasty habit of leaving residue in the plastic.
