Re: What is blooming in your garden today (other plants)?
Very nice photo, Tony. Some people throw out "nice" comments without much thought but I am pickier than most and think you did a great job here. Was it with your cheap Kodak? What variety is this?

Re: What is blooming in your garden today (other plants)?
This is my first year of growing cape gooseberry, Physallis peruviana. I've had a tough time with a potato beetle attacking them even though I've never noticed this pest previously. It seems to be a magnet for the insect. This is not my photo but I believe it's the same insect: Three-Lined Potato Beetle, Lema daturaphila 2 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Pyrethrin kills them but more come after those are gone.
Today I noticed a my first flowers opening on two of my 16 plants: |

Re: What is blooming in your garden today (other plants)?
I think that is the 'Parrot's Beak' heliconia. The 'Lobster Claw' is generally an orange shade (like a cooked lobster), with a dark green to black edge, and no yellow. Another difference, 'Parrot's Beak' hangs down, 'Lobster Claw' grows upward. Still nice pics, though.
(yeah, I know if you 'google' it, it shows the 'Parrots Beak' even when you look for 'Lobster Claw', that doesn't mean it's right) Last edited by Yug : 04-25-2012 at 05:34 AM. |
