Watching an Avocado die

I've been watching my Sharwil avocado die for the past 5 months. The stems have been blackening, there is leaf drop, etc. This week now for the first time the cause of the symptoms are very apparent: the graft is failing. It is blackening in places, turning white in others. This plant is toast.

I start my initial graft higher, so if it fails I can do a second graft lower.

I feel your pain..here in South Louisiana I have killed many, many Caddo's

Tried several different varieties, purchased them from $29.99 to $106.00 in value and have killed them all. I even purchased from a reputable local nursery with a one year guarantee. Well purchased in March and as you mentioned TOAST by January of the next year:{

Brought them back and they replaced them a couple of times and I managed to execute them as well so I told the nursery thanks for the great service but can't ask you to help the avocado undertaker any more lol.

Anyway I bought a few more and am trying again!

I over wintered a Haas and got a variety called Ms. Holland as I was told that has been grafted last fall and it's still kicking:}

I also have a Lizard Creek (Unknown variety) grown from seed and it's getting with it so........

Hopefully if I hold my tounge just right I may get a 2 year old plant lol

I'd like dat me:}

I got three in the ground and two in large pot's on a big hill we'll see how it goes:}

This plant originated at Atkins nursery in Fallbrook. A fellow named Rudy does all the grafting and propagation there. I've never had any trouble with his work before.

Hey Mr. Mayor,

Remember to bury the graft about four inches deep on that Mrs. Holland. Then protect it every winter till it gets about three inches. After that it should be ggod to go except for ridiculous Winters like we had this year.

I think my Mexicola is dead but I'm still waiting. My seedling Mrs. Holland is sproting from underground. This really speaks highly of the variety.
