Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010
34/50 sprouted and survived = 68% my personal best before was 58%...woo hoo! the largest ones are three weeks old now. One is already big enough to ship, with 4" diameter pads.

Re: Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010
Very nice, Sandy! Glad to hear of your successes. So how do you ship such a thing?
PS...excellent use of that recycled cattle trough!

Re: Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010
I love these! I can remember when some of our horticulturists at MBG used to come in at night to pollinate them (the natural pollinator is a moth in S. America) and then wait to see if the pollination took. They are definitely cool plants.

It starts out as white than turns rose pink.

Re: Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010
I was friends with the guy who took care of the one's at MBG and when a leaf started to die at come apart, he'd have to take a pitch fork to lift it out of the water to protect his hands from the thorny underside.

Re: Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010
They're thorny? They look like they'd be slimy....interesting! Always great to learn new things!

Re: Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010
Yes, they are very thorny on the undersides, I presume to protect them from grazing fish/other animals.
