Sweet Sue papaya
 

I was reading in another thread about papaya and someone on there was growing one called Sweet Sue from Thailand. They are apparently fairly cold hardy, for papaya that is, taking temps to the mid twenties. I found one individual in Texas who was growing them and got snow on it and it still survived. They lost it though and their source for seed is no longer.

Does anyone know where to get these or know of someone in Thailand that may be able find them?

This looks promising. If you ever manage to get your hands on it, let me know. I'd love to give it a shot both up here in Santa Clara and back home in Granada Hills. Do you know if it will set fruit on its own, or does it need a male plant?

Yeah that was the thread I was reading, then did some more searching. The member Bamboo Conne'iseur that grew/grows it does not seem to have an account anymore or something. So I do not know how to get in touch with him.

Also I have no idea if it is self fertile.

It is an old thread, I did not attempt any follow up. I know the Rio valley is not a small area but just maybe someone that lives there?

I've had that Royal Star papaya before.

That may be it. Seems like a good candidate. It sounds like it takes frost fairly well.

I also wanted to try that royal star papaya, it sounds good.

What's the typical size range & flesh color of the "Tainung's" fruit?
