Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
I just saw a pineapple plant for sale today at Home Depot. Now I want to grow some too! How do you think they'd do in SoCal z10a?

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
Great! I hear that they require very little room, which is good because I'm sort of tight on space.

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
I had a sugarloaf fruit in a 1 gallon pot, it was a pretty small fruit but tasted great. Pineapples don't need much soil to grow, but the plants can get pretty wide, they love to jab you as you walk by.

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
Great thread! I can't believe how many little pups you repotted. Do you guys want to post up your watering/fertilizing schedule? Right now just for fun i have two tops growing from store bought pinneapples, just testing out my green thumb.
Thanks, -Luke |

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
I grew Sugarloaf and Smooth Cayenne but opted to keep only the Smooth Cayenne. The flavor and texture won me over.

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
Much to my surprise my pineapples are starting to flower and set fruit. This is especially surprising as I figured that they would take longer from tissue culture. My MD2 pineapples that were started from tops were begun in 2009 and are just now flowering.

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
I feel like Sugarloaf flowers every year no matter what, where all my other types take at least 2 years.

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
OK, I want to know if those of us in cooler climes can do pineapples. No greenhouse, but I can bring it inside over the winter with the 10,000 other tender plants I have.

Re: Sugarloaf Pineapple
Awesome pics. I just ordered two Sugarloaf Pineapple plants two days ago. I can't wait till they arrive. How old is the inflorescence in your pictures? How long did the plant take to produce a flower?
