Re: Succulents & Cacti...
Ok I cut that new piece off my dragon fruit cutting...
I want to see if two new branches will develop from where I removed this one. I've placed the cutting that's already rooted into another pot to develop into a separate plant...one for you and Tom, Janan. And Cam if he wants one! : ) |

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
Looking good. The dragon fruit cutting will definitely root with no trouble at all. In fact you'll find they're quite prolific and tend to get a lot bigger than you may think at first. Completely jealous of the blue agave... I've wanted one of them for a long time. You don't see them here.

Yeah, I love that Blue Tequila Agave too and think Janan is just the biggest sweetheart for sharing it with me.
Cool about the dragon fruit, Bob. Thanks so much for passing it on to me. : ) |

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
The little Agave is looking good Sherry! It likes your attention! Looks like your Sticks on fire are really starting to grow well too. Does the sap burn or sting?
I broke down and bought a succulent wreath when they went on sale. Here is mine: I don't know what this dark tipped one is but I like it a lot. ~JaNan

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
I wanted to show off the different colors I have these in and also the buds. I have five of them that will be blooming soon! They are all growing in the same environment outside in front of the house and in full morning sun. These are the succulent Kalanchoe daigremontiana AKA Mother of Thousands. You either love them or hate them - I am a lover.
This is a color I have not found pictured on the internet - it is blue red on top and a darker almost purple on the underside of the leaves (may be a new SPORT and I have two of them so far) and beside it a tannish olive colored one. shades of green a dark almost black olive color the next two pictures are the blue green colors and the Mothers of this color are the ones that are getting ready to bloom Green with yellow edging Bud pictures - the stalks of the blossoms are about 3 to 3 1/2 feet tall Close up of the new babies on the edge These are considered invasive in some environments like Florida, but easily controlled in cooler ones. I don't have any problems in mine, but you will have to stay on top of it if you have them in the ground outside in the warmer climates. They make nice houseplants and can be fun for kids as an easy starter plant. ~JaNan

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
Thanks Sherry! I am really keeping a close eye on this red blue purple one. I want more of them but it's little babies don't develope on the leaf edges like the others do - they start but then srivel up. You can see some on the very tips of the one pictured. I may try taking a leaf off and trying to grow it that way to see if it maintains that color. I suspect that the great color has to do with the amount of full sun it gets as with my other succulents. But you can see the others that are side by side are not that color at all.
Have any of you other succulent lovers seen this color before on this plant? Here's a fresh picture of the succulent bowl that I made the other day. They are really liking it so far! Here's one you might really like Bob! It is Agave Americana that I think is crossed with the Blue Tequila that you like. It shows both the blue and green coloring. It is my biggest one which is about 2 1/2 feet tall by 3 1/2 foot wide. close up that looks like lace on the skin I've been outside this afternoon taking pictures. Can you tell? Here's why: ~J

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
You want MORE? OK. Here is one of my little teeny dwarf orchids that has a bloom open and another bud waiting.
That big mixed agave has only made one pup so far and I gave it to Cheryl when she came over this summer. I'll be keeping an eye out to share more when it has more babies. This is a smaller succulent bowl I made the same time I made the big one. The succulents in this one are all teeny except for the tri color kalanchoe in the middle. I don't know how big it gets, but it is growing at a much faster rate than the others. ~J

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
That mix blue agave is absolutely gorgeous, JaNan! If you end up with extra pups, give me a shout!!
Here's my 'little' agave americana variegated. He's about 4 feet across now in my living room, and attacks my ankles every time I water.

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
Thanks guys! I think it is pretty special too! Bob your first on the list and Howard you are second. I will let you all know as soon as I see an inkling of a pup, hopefully when Spring hits!
Here are a couple more variegated agaves that I have. This first one I think is the same as yours Howard. I love the way yours is curling and waving, that looks really cool. My husband calls all these ankle biters! This little guy is my favorite of the agaves though. It is very, very white and as you can see from the tag it just says variegata and doesn't look anything like the picture shown. I have tried finding matching plants on the internet of the blue green cross and the extra bright white, but I haven't had any luck. If any of you know please tell me! Thanks! ~JaNan

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
I love agaves. There was someone around here giving away all of their agave plants. These were a few feet tall and huge. The only catch was you had to dig them up yourself. I wish I could have jumped at that opportunity lol

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
Yeah there's a flowershop downtown that puts out boxes of their flowers on the side of the road each night, that aren't fresh enough to sell anymore, so people just take them for free.
Gonna try to find some more colorful succulents in Spring and maybe I'll even place an order from somewhere because we just don't have the selection of them that other places seem to have. Love all your pics Janan. That one with the chocolate tips is wonderful. : ) |

Re: Succulents & Cacti...
String of Pearls looking good!
Those Christmas Kalanchoes (Blossfeldiana) you took pictures of at Christmas time Sherry, went on sale here and I bought 5 of them at 50 cents each. Yeah, I know - I can't help it - I am a tightwad plant buyer!!! They had them in all colors, but these were the colors that I liked the best - Here they are: ~JaNan
