STRAWBERRY Grower's Thread...
Do you love them too, and want to grow them? Maybe you've grown them before? What are your favorites ??? Personally I love everbearing types and I have seeds for one in particular called "Temptation". It's got few runners and more berries, and it's most ideal for a hanging basket. The berries are big and delicious. I also love Alpine types. Even though they're smaller, the flavor is unsurpassable. I've grown them in the garden as well as in pots. Here's an Alpine seedling today that I'm growing... I'm actually growing it in my aero-garden but I give the seedling real sunlight each day. ...and what about strawberry jam! Or my personal favorite... Drop in, if you have an interest in growing strawberries. We can discuss some good growing techniques and maybe even trade some seeds... : ) |

Re: STRAWBERRY Grower's Thread...
So glad you like the thread, Greg! Looking forward to your pictures. Strawberry plants have very shallow roots so be sure to keep yours well watered. They also like to be fed as well and prefer a pH of 5.8-6.5. Keep the weeds away from them in the garden. You'll get 5-10 quarts of berries per 10' row. They prefer rich, well-drained, sandy loam. : ) |

Re: STRAWBERRY Grower's Thread...
Thanks I sure will. Most of the pots I received from clean up day. Thats a day we have when people throw stuff away. I drive around and pick things up. Why not they still are good.
I planted some berries around my pond also there going in the water. I will post updates. |

Great strawberry groups Greg!
I love strawberries too, but don't have any pictures to post yet. I should have taken a picture of my strawberry shortcake the other night but forgot! ~JaNan

Re: STRAWBERRY Grower's Thread...
Strawberry shortcake is my favorite. I posted a shot of one, in the first post (although not my own), that just about made me drool!
Here's my strawberry pot, but it had herbs growing in it at the time... It's enormous, with 8 holes...plus the top! It's super heavy as well. I've mostly grown herbs in it indoors, because I've been afraid to put it out and have it stolen. It was really expensive and I hope I have it forever. It's already 7 years old. I'm going to grow strawberries in it again next June, at my new place when I move. Here's a picture of a wild Alpine type like the one I'm growing this season... The berries are smaller but the flavor is way more intense than regular kinds. Wow, you've got a lot of strawberries growing, Greg! Are they all the same kind? Do you know the variety? Looks like you're going to have tons of them! Looking forward to watching them develop and grow. Your shots are terrific. It's really great to have you back with us, Greg! : ) |

You're very welcome, Brian!
I'm going to get seeds this year, for a type with pink blossoms instead of white. I just think they're totally gorgeous... : ) |

Re: STRAWBERRY Grower's Thread...
Oh and Greg...I think they're spelled Sequoia strawberry, since you asked.
How many years have your berries been coming up each spring for you? Curious. Do you fertilize the plants? : ) |

Re: STRAWBERRY Grower's Thread...
Awesome thread. <3
I pulled off a runner of a wild strawberry with yellow flowers from my workplace. Hope to use it as a ground cover for the north side (all that grows there is just weeds). |

Re: STRAWBERRY Grower's Thread...
Well I'm really glad you guys are enjoying this thread!!! Me too!!!
Here's my little Alpine baby today, in my aero-garden. The crown is sending up more leaves... I'm so excited to watch it grow and produce berries! Wow Dar...yellow flowers?! Those sound lovely. If you get a chance to get a shot of the blossoms, I'd sure love to see them. That variegated one is so cool, Greg! Thanks for the link! I bet JaNan is drooling because she loves variegated plants! : ) |
