Default Starting 8 New Heliconias

See the 7 pots with pseudostems/rhizomes in the row closest to the camera. I got them from two Etsy sellers in Puerto Rico and they cost me a small fortune.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/YeyBroms

https://www.etsy.com/shop/TOBEUNIQUJEWELRYS

Also, see the 1 pot with leaves left front of that row. I got that (with leaves) from the same Florida Ebay seller as the blooming psittacorums behind it.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/mariad904/m.html

Again, I have a bad feeling about the 7 rhizomes because they show no signs of growth. I have the night temperature set to 75 Deg. F.. Also, instead of planting in my usual rice hull mixture, I switched to Sunshine Mix No. 4 which also costs a small fortune.

My yard came with heliconia's that spread like wildfire. Don't know what kind but they do get tall and have orange flowers. Sorry, I've spent the past year ripping them out as they compete with my beloved bananas. They grow like weeds in our heat/humidity... I now use them primarily as a screens (eg. for my compost file) and for contrast in some areas. They do take work containing them; I spent last month cutting 25 feet of them back to ground as when they get 10 feet + tall they block out backyard views. By Spring they'll be back to 4 feet +, where I like them to be. I need to learn more about so thanks for links to the publication. If you were in FL I'd say have at them!

Why don't you spray with glyphosate?

Anyway, please, post a photo of the flower and leaf.

Not yet. Only two of the rhizomes are sprouting and it will be awhile before leaves appear. Then, maybe.

Meanwhile, I saw that Home Depot is selling plain orange H. psittacorum in 8 in pots for $40. It doesn't look like they are selling much so I expect the price to come down after they are half dead.

Everything is doing well except for the two Heliconia Spathocircinata Golden Torch rhizomes which are still alive but haven't sprouted. Good thing I have the other that came with leaves. I am surprised that the blooming psittacorum are doing so well in winter.

I bet nobody can identify the plant in the upper right corner of the photo.

Hint: I cheated.

No.
Hint: It is a plant that I posted a photo of, with ID, before. If it was in bloom, many people would recognize it.

No, not a musa. Remember, I said that I cheated.

I am waiting for it to bloom before making a new thread on it because that will be special.
