split leaf philodendron

I recently purchased asplit leaf philodendron. Has anyone else grown or currently growing this plant. I think its a pretty cool looking plant and I have read that it makes a good houseplant during the winter months. My mom has one that is a few years old and it has what looks like a trunk. Hopefully mine will do OK.

Do you mean Monstera deliciosa or Philodendron bipinnatifidum? People commonly say 'split-leaf' when they are talking about the selloum. They are not the same but are related.

Split-leaf can take some sun but really needs indirect light. Put the aerial roots in the soil when they get long enough. Split-leaf is actually a vine that likes to climb.

Selloum can take full sun or full shade and is hardy to about 26F.

We started ours from seed. Many of the seeds germinated but of those only one was saved. We had some health issues but managed to keep one alive. It is the Mexican variety and is growing nicely in a shady spot. Plan on getting more seed and being more careful with our health.
Not sure if you know that these are toxic plants and they can produce a seed that looks good to eat by children and animals.

I think it is the selloum. It in a way reminds me of mammoth elephant ears . The leaves are curly and wavy and kinda look like fingers. Thanks!

I have a few of these in my yard. Two in full sun, one in shade. The one in shade looks a LOT healthier.

It is nearly six foot tall and beside it you can see some false papyrus, fatsia, night blooming jasmine, Black magic EE, shrimp plant and an trumpet plant in the background.

If you look real close you'll see some Redneck Christmas lights! LOL

Yes darkman! That is exactly it! So this plant can take direct sun? I am going to grow it in a large pot and overwinter indoors. That's a nice looking pic by the way! Thanks.

It can take direct sun, but it doesn't seem to like it. Especially with the water rationing we're having here in SoCal

Mine gets direct morning sun only. By 1100 it is shaded. And it's root zone is cool and moist all the time.

I do not think it would be happy in full sun.
